James Thompson was once a promising prospect, but after having lost six of eight, his potential seems used-up. Sleeping Beauty might be a better nickname for The Colossus, who has been knocked-out seven times in 22 fights. Though he holds wins over Don Frye and Dan Severn, the big Brit's glass jaw is what may get him a shot against as-of-yet-undefeated Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson. Thompson last lost to Brett "Grim" Rogers at EliteXC: Street Certified. Thompson had been training at Xtreme Couture and had confidence in his clinch game. He rushed Rogers and tried to secure a take-down but was thwarted. Rogers landed a swift combination of punches with his back to the cage, rocking, wobbling, and eventually extinguishing Thompson in the first round. Another possible opponent for Slice is Ron "H2O" Waterman. A UFC, PRIDE FC, and Pancrase veteran, Waterman holds a 15-5-2 record and is coming off of wins against Mario Rinaldi and Analu Brash. Waterman has faced-off against the likes of Ricco Rodriguez, Kevin Randalman, and Mirko Filipovic. The 43-year old fighter poses a bigger threat to Slice and, as such, is less likely to be his next opponent, though his name has come up in recent weeks.
It's a shame that Thompson may never realise his potential.. or that his potential is not as high as it seemed to be. Still It would be a step up for Kimbo and will at least give him some more cred. but Elite XC has to step up and put someone real against him soon.. they're still doing cross promotions with Strikeforce.. Paul Buentello anyone
I'm sure there would be a lot of red tape to cut through, but I really wish that Elite's first shot at prime time was the shamrock/Cung le card. I will be shocked if Kimbo has a fight that exciting in his career, let alone against some can. He should be able to KO either one of those two. Not impressed.

I do commend Elite for putting someone who could conceivably win a fight with Kimbo.. sure he has a glass Jaw but he's got some skills and has good strength. It's not throwing Kimbo into the deep waters but it is pushing him into deeper water at least.
