For the past couple of years, or in other words, ever since I've gotten into music, I've mostly been a hiphop/rap guy. I never really touched much onto other genres, but I'm hoping to expand the range of music I listen to. I know there is a recommendation thread, but that's just waaaaay too much music for me to comprehend all at once (41 pages). I'm just wondering if you all can do me a favor and just recommend a couple of your favorite songs to me. Anything other than hiphop/rap will be fine (no R&B either)

Btw, I only want songs, not artists or albums. I don't have a huge IPod so I can't fill it up with too much music. Thanks

Thanks for all the songs ZAE!

Anyways, I listen to all kinds of hiphop, so I really don't know how you guys could narrow it down. Recently I've been listening to a lot of Cormega, Jin, The Roots, Wu-Tang-Clan (GZA and Raekwon are my favorites). Not sure how much that helps. lol.

Blur - Modern Life is Rubbish. I know you don't want want albums, but everything on that is gold.

Thanks for the recommendation Jigga. Not sure if I'll get the album, but I'll make sure to check them out.

Btw, I'm not into the whole hardcore screamer music either. That stuff gets on my nerves...

Add some Joe Budden (Mood Muzik 2 and 3) and you'll be straight. [IMG]

I got Mood Muzik 2, but I haven't listened to it in a while. Great mixtape. I don't have Mood Muzik 3 though, never got in the mood to download it for whatever reason. I'm still waiting for him to drop his album

He released MM3 on Amalgam Digital (its available in Best Buy etc.) and he's releasing "Padded Room" in May or June on Amalgam Digital too. After that hes signing to a major.

    Anyway back to rock...

I'm a old school rock kind of guy. The Police, U2, Billy Joel, The Stones, Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi, David Bowie, and of course Bruce Springsteen. I highly suggest you check out all of the above.

My favorite is Bruce. His music means a lot to me and a lot of other people not only from Jersey but from all over the world because he's able to take things that happen in ordinary life and put them into song. Plus, him and the E Street Band are probably the best live peformers out there now even now (Sorry Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Lil' Wayne, Jay-Z et. al).

Songs I would recommend from him to start:
    Rosalita (Come out tonight)
    E Street Shuffle
    New York City Serenade
The entire Born to Run album (seriously, it's worth it)
    Badlands
    The River
    Hungry Heart
    Born in the U.S.A.
    Dancing in the Dark
    Glory Days
    Tunnel of Love
    Brilliant Disguise
    Streets of Philadelphia
    The Rising
    Radio Nowhere
    Livin' in the Future
    Long Walk Home

If I had to start with one Bruce album, I'd obviously start with Born to Run. There are eight tracks and all of them are incredible. It's probably my favorite album. I highly recommend listening to every track one after another. Born in the U.S.A. is also incredible. Tunnel of Love, The Wild The Innocent and E Street Shuffle, and The River are all underrated albums. They're all great, but I'd suggest Born to Run is probably his greatest work. His new album Magic is also great. I highly suggest getting into him.</div>
Thanks for the recommendations Real, but is it possible for you to narrow it down to a couple of songs? Like your top 10 favorite, or maybe even top 20. I would love to get all his albums, but I don't have enough space on my IPod to fit everything in. [IMG]

I'm not sure how much you like classic rock, but here's some off the top of my head:

The Jimi Hendrix Experience: "Purple Haze," "Hey Joe," "Stone Free," "Red House," "Foxey Lady," "Little Wing," "If 6 Was 9," "Bold as Love," "All Along the Watchtower," "Voodoo Child"

    Band of Gypsys: "Machine Gun"

Led Zeppelin: "Dazed and Confused," "Communication Breakdown," "Whole Lotta Love," "The Lemon Song," "Immigrant Song," "Stairway to Heaven," "When the Levee Breaks," "No Quarter," "The Ocean," "Kashmir," "Achilles Last Stand"

Black Sabbath: "Black Sabbath," "The Wizard," "N.I.B.," "War Pigs," "Paranoid," "Iron Man," "Electric Funeral," "Sweet Leaf," "Children of the Grave," "Snowblind," "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath"

Cream: "I'm so Glad," "Strange Brew," "Sunshine of Your Love," "World of Pain," "Tales of Brave Ulysses," "White Room," "Born Under a Bad Sign"

Brand New - Your Favorite Weapon (album
from that album: Jude Law and a Semester Abroad (haven't found a person yet who doesn't like it); Secondary; Logan to Government Center; Failure By Design

Not sure if you'd like Cartel...but for them The Ransom; Honestly; If I Fail

Anything Sublime. My favorites: Santeria; What I Got; I've Seen Better Days; Wrong Way

(I may post some ZAE's already put up)

Boston - More Than a Feeling
    Hall and Oates- Rich Girl
    Kingsmen - Louie Louie
Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved
    Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl
Thin Lizzie - Boys Are Back in Town
Charlie Daniels Band - Devil Went Down to Georgia
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
Jojo - Leave (Get Out) [IMG]
    Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

And I know you're not asking for hip hop, but I highly recommend Blu & Exile - Below the Heavens (album)

Yeah, I was actually thick-headed and forgot you wanted songs. So I went ahead and listed songs to start with. Add Atlantic City to that list as well.

If you can't fit the entire Born to Run album (only 8 songs), Thunder Road, Born to Run, and Jungleland are probably top 3, but again, I highly recommend listening to the entire thing beginning to end. It's worth it.

You get albums and put them on your computer but only add the songs you want to your iPod.

Just a couple of nice songs off the top of my head:

    1. Jesus Christ Pose. [IMG]

    2. Pearl Jam- "Black" (unplugged version) - Slightly more mainstream, but old school and deep.

haha I saw that. I was like "uhhhhhh"

But I concurr on Brand New, although I only have their first album (well the first hit anyway; a couple years back). Any Hall & Oates would be solid. "P-p-p-priiiivate eys, they're waaaatching youuu."
