To be honest, I never really gave the Beatles much of a listen. I thought they were like too "old fashioned" for me, but I did like most of the songs I've heard from them though. I'll probably check out some of their greatest hits stuff

I kind of like the Smashing Pumpkins song you posted. I'll probably check them out too

    - Dave Matthews

    - Jack Johnson

    - Beatles

    - Smashing Pumpkins

    Thanks for the recommendations

Thing is, I think the Beatles and SP are good music, and Dave Matthews/Jack Johnson I like a few of their songs, but I just think it's more up your alley for liking what you do.

What I do want to say though, the Beatles spanned so many years that their music changed drastically. Personally, I don't like too much of their pre-'67 music. Only really Abbey Road, the White Album, etc. have ever been good music to me, but that's the thing about the Beatles. They have so much to offer that it's hard for someone to not find at least one song they really like out of their catalogue.

SP's a great band in that they really captured the apathy and "I don't give a fuck" feel of early 90's music with catchy melodies written along with the lyrics. It's mainstream, somewhat poppy music that has depth, almost like grunge lite.

But anyway, I'll clear the floor for more people to talk. I just really love talking music...

one of the all time great rock songs that is truly unoticed:
13th Floor Elevators- You're Gonna Miss Me

if you're into the Beatles, you should check out the band Gomez. they have 3 different singers, and have done like nearly every genre of music. one of my favorites; seen them live around 20 times now. a few reommendations:
    Bunea Vista
    Get Myself Arrested
    Get Miles
    Bring It On
    Waster
    Shot Shot
    Army Dub
How We Operate (this one was on Grey's Anatomy)

I will add another post in this thread tommorow with a wide variety of goodies [IMG]

been listening to some rock music, fun stuff these past few days. here's mc5's kick out the jams, a definite proto punk and heavy rock group.

gotta love some catchy glam rock,
here's the new york dolls, a huge influence here in their uk performance which would inspire the punk movement a few years later. more drugged up than the rolling stones, and in drag, can't be any more fun than this:

marc bolan & t.rex, writer of so many catchy songs (including bang a gong get it on)
    <div><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/t;object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Pk3nxg-cTdk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Pk3nxg-cTdk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/t;object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Pk3nxg-cTdk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Pk3nxg-cTdk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" /></embed></object></div>

finally, I can't begin to mention how influential brian eno has been to popular music. some of his production credits include talking heads, u2, and the most recent coldplay album. here's him in his early days when he was in the group roxy music, glamming it out on way ahead of it's time electronics. he'd later go on to do some of the most relaxing ambient music ever.
