http://sportstwo.com/NCAAB/Story/NCAAB/1949107 South Carolina found its replacement for Dave Odom. The Gamecocks on Tuesday officially named Western Kentucky's Darrin Horn their new men's basketball coach. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the Greenville News reported Monday that Horn will get a five-year contract to be worth at least $700,000 but less than $1 million. Horn, who spent the past five seasons with Western Kentucky, became a hot candidate for any coaching vacancy after the Hilltoppers completed a run to the regional semifinals at the NCAA Tournament that included a thrilling overtime upset of fifth seed Drake in the first round. Western Kentucky had its run ended with an 88-78 loss to top seed UCLA on Thursday, finishing its season 29-7 and making its only appearance in the NCAAs under Horn. Horn, 35, has compiled a 111-48 record in five seasons with his alma mater, including NIT appearances in 2005 and 2006. Odom, who guided South Carolina to back-to-back NIT titles starting in 2005, decided to retire at the end of the season, going 128-102 in seven seasons with the Gamecocks. South Carolina went 14-18 this season, including a 5-11 showing in the Southeastern Conference. The Gamecocks have not been to the NCAAs since 2004.
Good job by Horn striking while the iron was hot. However, I wonder how quickly the pressure will be on him to get into the NCAA tournament
