http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...mp;sportCat=nba One of the best articles i've read in a while. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>How bad is it for Kobe? In a 2004-05 season in which Kobe averaged 27.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.0 assists, P.J. Brown -- yes, you read right -- received more MVP votes than he did, and Brown received only one vote. How many games did PJ's team win that year? 18.</div>
Well the PJ Brown vote is clearly retarded lol. No argument there. Actually when looking at the voting that year, There were 3 players who received votes who did not make playoffs: 1. Lebron James - 93 points on 43 votes Cavs had 42 wins and missed the playoffs by 1 win. Cavs improved their record by 7 games. Lebron shot 47% up from 42%, scored 27.2 ppg up from 20.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 7.2 apg, 2.2 spg. 2. Kevin Garnett - 15 points from 6 votes total Timberwolves had 44 wins and missed the playoffs by 1 win, he won the MVP the year before, and put up spectacular numbers 22 ppg, 50% FG%, 13.5 rpg, 5.7 apg, 1.4 bpg, 1.5 spg. 3. PJ Brown 1 point from 1 vote, 18 wins, 11 ppg, 9 rpg. Just a media guy who didn't care about his fifth selection vote. Clearly there are probably 50 players more deserving than PJ that season. 1. Kobe had been considered the #2 guy on the Lakers up till that point in time, and the MVP can't go to the #2 guy. 2. The Lakers the year before won the Pacific division, made it to the Finals and then in 04-05 won 34 games. 3. Kobe didn't play a full season (66 games). 4. Kobe shot his lowest FG% since his sophmore season. (43%) Anyway, obviously the MVP voting thing is biased, and often times there are multiple candidates who are deserving and put forth great contributions to their team. Arguing who didn't get a single vote, you could bring up Paul Pierce, who played 82 games, led his team to 45 wins, shot 45.5% FG%, 37% from 3 point range (Kobe only has one season above 37% 3 point %, which is his rookie year), 21.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.6 spg. MVP voting is messed up anyway. Kidd should have some MVPs by now, AI should have none, Shaq should have an extra one or two, Kobe should have one. But my criteria are different than the media I guess.

AI should probably have none. I don't like Shaq either.
The east was pretty weak in the year that he won it, but he was the most valuable player to his team by far. If shaq went down with an injury, they still would have had kobe, plus a very solid lineup of veterans, which is why they won the championship that year. Furthermore, AI is the third best individual player of the last 15 years, besides MJ and Kobe. He deserves the one he got...
I don't see how AI really should have gotten any. In reality, during the years where Kobe and Shaq went to the Finals 4 times in what, 6 years, Shaq should have probably won at least a trio of MVPs during that point. He was the dominant player of that era and it's a shame he only won once. Keep in mind that I no longer care for Shaq either, and I'm saying these words.
If Lebron took the Cavs to be the Number 1 seed in the playoffs last year would he have been the MVP? YES. Same thing that Iverson did. Not to mention he took his team to the finals where he beat what was arguably the best or second best team in the past 20 years.
If AI was in the West, I could see your point since the MVP really takes into account team success. 56 over there is not the same thing, Shaq was a better player than Iverson and won as many games that year.
