<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (pinetar @ Apr 8 2008, 02:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>You have to consider the current roster when deciding who to draft. The Nets already have five respectable big men, at least three of whom should be better next year (Krstic, Boone, and Williams). Three could leave as free agents, and the two who can't are young defensive oriented PFs. It doesn't make sense to draft a PF unless he brings something different - strong offense - or unless we're ready to give up on the players we already have. The situation is similar at point guard. Hopefully Harris and Williams will both be effective and leave very few minutes to a third stringer. Next offseason we'll have a better idea of whether Williams is a solid rotation player or a bust. If the latter, that will be the time to get another point guard. Having said all that, I would be happy to draft a likely future superstar at those positions. Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose are welcome here, but I don't think such a player would be available at pick #10. At the wing we have two solid starters but not much else. Nachbar has his moments but is inconsistent and Hassell is a situational sub rather than a real rotation player. So I would use both first round picks on wings. Shooting ability and respectable defense are important; slashing and ball handling are less important. At the first pick, Mayo and Gordon will probably be gone, so I would probably take Batum or Douglas-Roberts. At the second pick, I like Courtney Lee.</div> Considering all that the Nets have been through the past few seasons, having too many quality big men is not something I'd worry about. However, if they do draft a big, I'd like it to be someone that can score from the low post. As much as I'm not a fan of Kevin Love's NBA prospects, on the Nets he could be properly used as a 20 MPG role player and succeed. Hibbert and Hendrix can both score, but each has their issues and their projected spots aren't good matches for the Nets picks.

Can't remember but does lottery affect the 2nd round picks? so if Nets some how get a top 5 pick would that improve the 2nd round pick?</div> 2nd round is based upon record. The lottery doesn't impact it.
Speaking of the second round, Portland has 2 likely top 5 second round picks. I'd like to see the Nets acquire at least one of them.
Thanks for answering my question, I agree the Nets need to acquire one of Blazers picks or try to acquire one of T'Wolves they also have 2 in top 5.
I don't really care much about the second round or our later first yet, but assuming Rose, Beasley, Mayo, Bayless, and Lopez are gone, my next five are: Gallinari, Gordon, Batum, Randolph, Jordan with that, I'd expect Batum to be the highest who lasts to us. With the later first, I guess I'd go with CDR or Rush if they last that long.
The Nets deperately need competitive players who hate to lose. I absolutely love Brandon Rush and think he'll be a steal for somebody, but the Nets already have so many nice, chill players like him already.
Holy crap! Memphis is not moving down five spots in the lottery for a similar bump in the 20s and a second round pick!

I agree about Rush.
I don't get the Hansbrough love. He's mentally and physically stronger than college players. He's also older than most of them. That doesn't really translate to a good NBA player to me.
I do like Hansborough, but I think he is really a high second round value and we all know he won't last that long.
Is there any chance that Portland would trade Rudy and one of their high second rounders for the Nets' lottery pick and a player? If so, who would the player have to be?

He always puts in 100% effort, gets on his teammates when they aren't giving it their all, and does anything and everything he can to help his team. But I don't see his yelling and screaming affecting players like Vince Carter and Nenad Krstic to be honest. I don't see him doing all that much basketball-wise to make his team better in the NBA.
I would like to see us package Dalla's 2010 pick and our 2010 pick for Portland's pick at 13... Then I would draft as follows Nicolas Batum at 10 Chase Budinger at 13 Hasheem Thabet at 20 and Jamont Gordan at 40... imagine that young core PG: Devin Harris, Marcus Williams, Jamont Gordan SG: Vince Carter, Nicolas Batum SF: Richard Jefferson, Chase Budinger PF: Nenad Krstic, Sean Williams C: Josh Boone, Hasheem Thabeet
What if Bayless somehow got to the Nets' pick? They wouldn't do Rudy and a second rounder for Bayless and Boone or one of the Williamses? How about Gordon in the same package?
I wanna know why some people like international prospects like Batum, Pekovic, Danillo, etc... I doubt anyone has seen them play, so is it just off here-say, scouting reports, and highlights?

Marcus will hate him. I can see Hansbrough getting excited and Marcus blowing him off.
i personally would have to go with Blake Griffin with out pick and either Nicolas Batum or Chase Budinger with the Dallas Pick
