<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Today's section is geared exclusively towards the latest rumor floating around the NBA … Six Weeks? In what could be a significant factor in the Los Angeles Lakers postseason run, a source close to the situation says Andrew Bynum may miss an additional six weeks. While details are very sketchy, Bynum recently flew to New York to visit knee specialist David Altchek. The hope was Bynum would be cleared to practice with the team and finally return after temporarily dislocating his kneecap. It's not clear why Bynum would need to fly all the way across country to be cleared; the source indicates that the exam revealed that Bynum simply isn't ready yet. This mirrors recent words by Kurt Rambis who told local radio that Bynum was hesitant on the knee when practicing one-on-one with the Lakers' assistant coach. Rambis expressed doubt that Bynum would be back this week. The Lakers have proven to be a potent team despite Bynum's absence especially with the acquisition of Pau Gasol. How capable they'll be in the postseason without Bynum remains to be seen. There is no official word on Bynum's progress. Certainly information is misconstrued from time to time but at this point the buzz in Los Angeles is that Bynum will miss at least one or even two rounds of the playoffs. Update: The Los Angeles Lakers released the following statement today: Lakers center Andrew Bynum was examined yesterday in New York by knee specialist Dr. David Altchek and has not been cleared to progress to full practices or contact drills, it was announced today. "This should not be seen as a setback in any way," said Altchek. "Andrew will continue with his therapy program and workouts with the Lakers' training staff and will continue to be monitored until he can return to playing status." There is no target date for Bynum's return.</div> http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?STORY_ID=8211
Wow, poor kid hasn't had anything go his way here recently. From a 6-8 week injury to now being gone for over 3 months and going on 4 probably.
Another setback on an injury. Honestly, who's surprised? There's no way we will win the West without Bynum. But there's always next year, right? Also, I'm really starting to question this medical staff. Bash me all you want Mamba, but I really don't see how anyone can change my opinion. Our injuries always seem to take longer to heal than originally diagnosed

We don't need Bynum, and we shouldn't count on having him back. This kid looks more injury prone every day. Yeah sure it would be nice to have him back, but it seems like he'll be quite lost.
The initial plan should have been to get Bynum back a couple of days before the playoffs to help him knock off the rust. More than likely, we won't really need his services in the first round, so we could use him off the bench at the start of the playoffs and gradually integrate him back into the team. Bynum would have provided us with another big body, and most importantly, and authority figure in the paint. Gasol is good, but center isn't his natural position. He doesn't have the presence Bynum does and isn't nearly as great of a shotblocker. Having Bynum in the paint would have helped out our guards defensively, because opposing players wouldn't be so eager to drive to the hoop every single possession. Gasol doesn't possess that type of presence, and I really doubt our guards will show much improvement defensively this season. I'm still confident we will advance past the first round, but if we want to take the next step and win the championship, we need Bynum

The West is wide open this year.
Lol Brian, the fuckin' staff can't control how a player heals, how severe an injury is, or anything of the sorts. Go post at LG, if you're going to post like that.
I'm not saying it's the medical staff's fault Bynum isn't back yet. I'm just starting to think they may be misdiagnosing these injuries
They said at least 8 weeks, and he'll be re-evaluated. Ariza's got a retardation in his foot, where it takes forever to heal. How can they misdiagnose, that?
I don't know, it just seems like everytime someone gets injured, it always takes longer for them to heal than what the first report stated. I'm not saying it's the medical staff's fault for these injuries, because it's not, they don't step on the court. But I would really appreciate it if they gave out more accurate reports. It seems like everytime someone gets injured, their return dates are always being pushed back. Btw, they did misdiagnose Karl Malone, a move that probably cost us the championship in 2004. Malone also did not speak too kindly of the Lakers medical staff
There is nothing in either article where a lakers official even mentions 6 weeks. it's pure speculation based on the writer's source. and correct me if i'm wrong but this writer's source(s) has been more than questionable in the past. did this source give us a heads up on gasol???????? did any of the so called sources????? From all credible sources i read into it as bynum not being back during the regular season and hopefully be back in the first round. even when phil mentions bynum playing sunday, he seems very sceptical so this is pretty much the same vague stance the lakers have been taking. the lakers need to get a matchup against one of the lower 3 seeded teams in the first round............the suns and a revitalized shaq would not be good.
The Lakers can win without Bynum but he anchors the defense like no one else can for our team. Shaw is right on the money saying this is the time for our Guards to really step it up.... dammit. 6 weeks? If this is true we wont see Bynum till next season.

I'm betting he'll be back by the time the first round starts. After the season ends, we have five days off before the first game is played, which should give him time to hopefully get back on the court and practice with his teammates.
it would be nice if this was just a trick and Bynum came back early just to mess with the other teams heads..
Well apparently the whole 6 weeks thing isn't really that accurate. Bynum may or may not be out another 6 weeks, but from what I have read, he will be back as soon as he stops feeling pain in his knee. Also, even though Bynum won't be playing this week against San Antonio, I read that it was a long shot to begin with. The Lakers organization didn't want Bynum coming back for another week (which is basically when the playoffs start), but Bynum's people kept pushing for a quicker return. As a result, they flew him over to New York for a checkup, and it turns out he isn't ready yet. So basically, he really isn't behind schedule. He wasn't supposed to return this early anyways
