So Thorn wants to "improve the Nets' shooting, toughness, and defense." Which players around the league fit the description and are either free agents, possible free agents, or maybe made available for trade by their teams. You don't suppose Thorn and Kiki would look to bring back Kenyon? He fits 2 of the 3 criteria. As well as the fact that Thorn drafted him, Kiki signed him as a free agent, and he appears healthy again. And they have some cap flexibilty now with Kidd gone. You know Denver will be desperate to move him or possibly Nene and retain JR Smith. Who do you think fits what they want and should be on their shopping list to inquire about.
0 chance Martin coming back. Some guys I want the Nets to target: Walter Hermann Matt Barnes Kwame Brown Josh Childress
Pretty damn difficult to make significant improvements to those three areas when the 3 wing starters appear set in stone. Based upon Thorn's last few summers, that sounds like more band-aids (i.e. crappy free agents).

Ignoring your whole blow up the team and draft 12 rookies preference. Who do you think should be the targets in a trade or free agency?
I think they need to find a scoring big man first. Here would be my primary targets: Elton Brand Nenad Krstic Leon Powe After that, get a starting or backup wing/shooter: Mike Miller James Posey Eddie House Daniel Gibson Matt Barnes Mickael Pietrus Steve Novak Kareem Rush Shawn Marion
Craig Smith for toughness. Quinton Ross for range and defense. Those are the two guys I want for us. Craig played with Sean at BC and really flourished beside him. Ross is still only 26 and gives us the Antonie Wright qualities but with the shot included. Not huge pick ups but I doubt we will get a big name without a big trade.

The guy made 9 of only 21 3pt attempts in 76 games this season and 12 of 42 for his career (302 games). Doesn't seem to shoot it from deep that much.

After many years of watching Thorn screw up, I'm becoming numb to it. I just hope that as long as Thorn is in charge and Kiki has input on drafting that all of the additions to the Nets roster come via trade.
I can think of someone, who brings tougness, shooting and defense. How about Kevin Garnett? Maybe Brand should be looked into.
Going after Brand or another marquee big I hope would be an important goal in the offseason. I was re-watching a Clippers vs Nets game from the 06/07 season and one part Brands game I didn't realize was he is a pretty decent passer for his position. He can read the defense and make a quick pass when the double team comes or is willing to give up the ball if there is a man open on the perimeter for a shot. Also dropped a nice interior pass to a team mate for a layup. If they manage to get Brand then they have to surround him with shooters to take advantage of that part of his game. If they could get the Clippers and Brand to agree to a sign and trade and have a starting salary of his at 13 million (similar to Carters deal) Then the Nets could try and using Swift, Hassell, Marcus Williams, Sean Williams, Nets first round pick (10) to get him. That would take care of the big they have needed for a long time. For shooting, a team stacked with shooters is the Raptors: They got Kapono, Anthony Parker, Bargnani, Calderon who they could all potentially use in a trade for their biggest need which is a starting marquee wing player. But the guy they would want is RJ. I don't know if I would trade such a key piece like RJ to a division team but both teams have players the other team needs. Anthony Parker would be a nice guy to have a off the bench. He can shoot the 3 and is a decent defender and could immediately help. But what to give up for him? Would Van Horn's non-guaranteed 4.7 million and a 08 2nd rounder be enough? Or is Van Horn's non-guaranteed 4.7 million and the Dallas 08 1st round pick be too much for Parker? With Marcus gone they would need a bakcup PG. Daniel Gibson or Keyon Dooling! They both can defend and Gibson is a pretty good 3 point shooter. Dooling has some offense to his game as well. Use the MLE on one of them. Resign Nachbar and Diop both for 2-3 million a year for say 3 years. If they get better offers than that then let them go. I'm not sure what to do with the rest of the bigman rotation. Who would best compliment Brand in the starting front court? Krstic? Diop? Boone? Who comes off the bench? Would they need another offensively capable bigman coming off the bench who could compliment Diop and Boone? Harris/Gibson or Dooling Carter/? Jefferson/Nachbar Brand/? ?/?

I don't think he fits the toughness and defense part but how about the nets take a chance on a guy like JJ redick. he hasn't really been given a chance and Orlando said they will look to trade him this summer and he only makes 2mil a year. Sure he has his limitations but i've always been for having a deadly spot up 3 pt shooter on the team even at the end of the bench ala korver, house, brent barry, damon jones etc. During the season, those guys may win a handful of games for you if they get hot.

It's not like Reddick is much more experienced and Orlando is going to want too much.
