NFL Draft Countdown in their latest mock draft has Virginia OT/OG Brandon Albert going 5th overall to the Chiefs, with them passing on Chris Long, Matt Ryan (i know they probably wont pick him), Sedrick Ellis, Ryan Clady, Jeff Otah.

I know Albert had a great combine but 5th overall??? Anyone want to fill me in on this

Yes, Chris Long gave him an endorsement over the last week, saying he is the best lineman in the draft. I think Chris might be exaggerating a bit though.

I would surely think they'd pick up Chris Long if they're trying to trade Jared Allen.

Guards typically are never a top 10 pick. Even Shawn Andrews who is amazing was the 14th pick, im guessing he goes in the early 20s.

If the Raiders are sitting there staring at Chris Long at #4, do you really believe in your mind and heart that Al would pass on the guy? Howie is a HOFer for that guy's team, and Chris is cut from exactly the same cloth. Not so importantly, the Raiders do have a *need* for another DE.

I feel so strongly that it wouldn't happen, I am willing to bet my brand new Raiders 2008 Official Draft Day Hat and exchange it for a Denver Broncos hat.

Albert is gaining momentum becuase teams are projecting him as a LT, not as a guard....I think he may be the 2nd O-lineman off the board, but 5th is a reach

I think teams are projecting him as an OG than can possibly swing out to OT.

The only question I have is; why?

I mean, sure, the intangibles are there. But I thought I read somewhere that he has started something like 2 games at OT. Seems risky to take an OG who MIGHT be able to play OT in the top 5 (or really, the top 10)....

The Chief's line situation is just that desperate, but I really don't think that they have married themselves to Albert at #5. I really expect them to deal down for more picks and try to get Albert a little lower, possibly leaning on leverage when the #5 pick rolls around and D. McFadden is still on the board. Their pick is going to be quite interesting to watch unfold. You know the Jets want McFadden, so which team below them will do the deal to get ahead of NY?

Why not take an OT like Clady then? Clady at least played LT in college.

Sure, no disagreement there. I think #5 is too high for either guy though, which is why I think they trade out or take defense at #5. There could be any one of 3 talented D lineman sitting there at 5, and they need that too.

The hard part for them, though, will be trading out of the top 5. Because at that point, both Longs should be gone as well as Dorsey. Although, I guess if a team really wants to move up for Ryan or a RB....

Vic Carucci's draft says Albert goes #23 to Pittsburgh - with a couple other guys going before him. Who really knows.

If I was the Chiefs and I was going to defintely trade Jared Allen, my options would be 1. Dorsey 2. Long 3. Gholston 4. Sedrick Ellis.

I wouldnt be surprised if McFadden got to them, and they decided to keep Allen, they might pick him in order to give Croyle a playmaker on offense and take the load off Larry Johnson. Im not a big fan of McFadden, because I dont think he can be a full time RB similar to Reggie Bush, he could team up with Larry to give them an even better running game.

And I just dont think the remaining offensive lineman are top 10 material, so if they want a OL, trade out so you can give another team the chance to get their potential superstar DL, Matt Ryan, or playmaker McFadden, and get more picks in the process.
