Did you expect Hanley to just mail the season in? He basically has nothing to play for this year, too.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"I don't care if it's broke," said Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who left the game after being struck on the left hand by a pitch from Maine (X-rays showed the hand was not broken). "I'm gonna play tomorrow. [Screw] everybody on the Mets. I'm going to kick their [butts]."</div>

Right, he had nothing to play for, but to say that publicly? Pretty ballsy. The following day the Marlins spanked Glavine for 7 in lessing than an inning to start off the game.

I'm a big fan of guys that will play all out like that. I think it's pretty underrated.

How did Hanley do in that game? Are we talking about Hanley or the Marlins? Stay on point.

How is that not on point? The guy puts up numbers, and rallies his teammates. When you have a guy that openly says things like that... don't think it fires up his teammates?

They both put up numbers, there is no denying that. But how many guys have said Reyes and his buddies happy go lucky, smiling, fisting pounding, and all rubs them the wrong way? Reyes was part of the crew that fired up other teams last year.

While I don't have the box scores for exactly what Hanley did, he must had gotten on base at least once and most likely scored, as Glavine didn't record an out till the latter part of the Marlins' lineup. Do you remember how the guy looked considering he smacked on the hand and was taken for X-Rays close to 12 hours before that game?

    0-4 with 0 runs scored.

I don't see your point with him getting hit on the hand and all the other Marlins beating up Tom Glavine.
I doubt his teammates got all psyched and "did it for Hanley".

What about how Carlos Beltran had a sit down with Jose Reyes this year to tell him to bring back his bubbly personality to fire the team up? I guess that's "bad for the team". I guess it only fires up your teammates when your name is Hanley, not Jose.
    Your anti-Met bias is evident.

    Ramirez is a huge guy.

When he matures and gets up around 220 pounds, I doubt he will still be a shortstop.

I could see him moving to the outfield before the five years are up.

Ok, I was mistaken about what he did during the game. Nor do I think they beat the Mets for Hanley. But when players make comments like he did and follow them up by playing, I think it does impact your team and how others look at you.

This is the same with Reyes, and what happened with Milledge last year. His bubbly personality is great. Its great to watch a guy having fun at his job. But when antics go a bit to the extreme (he was no where near Milledge), that pisses others off. Wasnt there a pitcher that went after Reyes when he was on 3rd last year?

Btw, check out the 3rd Basemen poll. I asked if some were underrating Wright. I just happen to think Hanley is a better player than Reyes, stats and intangibles.

Reyes is much, much better defensively. Over the past two years, Hanley has probably been the worst starting SS, defensively, in the NL (statistically, he's been about the same as Jeter). However, in a short sample, so far this year he's been much better and on par with Reyes. Keep in mind, though, that in 90% of the cases, a player's defense will gradually erode as he ages. In five years, Reyes will be probably just an average defensive SS. For every Ozzie Smith, there are five Rey Ordonezes.

    I'd still take Hanley.

    Reyes: .302/.368/.499, .867 OPS, 77 runs, 49 RBIs, 12 HRs, 13 triples, 28 doubles, 35 SBs, 136 hits, 54 Ks
    H-Ram: .300/.371/.523, .894 OPS, 84 runs, 47 RBIs, 24 HRs, 3 triples, 23 doubles, 25 SBs, 127 hits, 92 Ks

And I won't embarrass the wildly overrated Jimmy Rollins by posting his lame ass stats here.

Reyes is a real SS and will be playing there long after H-Ram moves to the OF or 1st base, but until then Reyes still owns him because of the glove.

That's unfair; Rollins was injured early in the year and I wouldn't be surprised if there has been some lingering problem. He's still a great player. Go badmouth Carl Crawford if you must pick on someone.
