CB in Round 1- Matt Mosley came out the other day (or perhaps today, I am so confused right now as to when things were said) and stated that Dallas is high on Flowers at 28. Last year, Mosley stated that Dallas was going to try and trade down and take Spencer. Mosley does have sources within Dallas (though, he also stated most of his sources are now in Miami.... re: Sparano) But I think its clear Dallas still needs to look at CB. Jones isn't reinstated yet; Henry always seems to get hurt; and Newman is a F.A. after this year. While the talent of a Newman, Henry, and Jones trio is unquestioned, there are questions about whether or not these players are in Dallas' long term plans. Needless to say, Dallas needs to look at CB at some point, pretty early in the draft. Prepare to be Shocked - Jerry likes to trade. Up. Down. Back up. Back down. He's a wheeler and dealer, and I have a hard time believing we'll stay put in the draft. I think trading down is more likely, but we cannot rule out the possibility of going up. I also think if someone like Jerod Mayo or Keith Rivers falls to 22 somehow, they could be likely picks. People will complain about yet another LBer, but an area we really struggled last year was coverage from our ILBs. Mayo and Rivers could upgrade that. I also think if Brandon Albert lasts to 22, Dallas could be looking at him. Jerry mentioned the other day in his Pre-Draft Press Conference that they had an OL in mind who could contribute right away. I think its Albert. But I wouldn't rule out Zuttah either. There is a possibility for a Veteran WR - While I think the Redskins have driven the price up for a veteran WR beyond what we'd be willing to offer, I still think a possibility exists for Roy Williams to come to Dallas. Pray that Detroit is enamored with someone when we are drafting, otherwise nothing will happen. No WR in first round - I think Dallas will look at WR in the middle rounds, but I don't think we'll spend a 1st round draft pick on a position that is prone to bust. And this year's class is really shaky, making it even less likely Dallas will gamble a 1st on some WR. Tommy Blake to Dallas - We held a workout with him and apparently liked what we saw. Wade stresses the importance of pass rushers and Blake fits that. I think Dallas will gamble on the extremely talented Blake despite his troubles last year. Ellis is getting older and you need to have plenty of pass rushers to make the 3-4 work.
I think Dallas should draft Jack Ikegwuono in the 7th. We are in a position where we can afford to redshirt him a year. He has a 2nd-3rd round talent grade. Its worth the gamble on someone like that. And considering the overhaul that could be coming in the secondary next year, the more options we have, the better.
I would feel ok with drafting Ikegwuono or Blake. Blake I'm a little less sure on since its one thing to mend a knee, but another to mend a broken head (cognitively). The draft is going to get really wild once we start getting out of the top 10. I thought last year got crazy, with us trading out and trading back up in the span of a couple of picks, but now there's that possibility with the added caveat of trading 28 for RW, or Boldin. Ideally I'd like to go CB, Veteran WR, RB. If we do go rookie WR I'd want Sweed or Hardy. I don't know enough about Devin Thomas, I think Desean Jackson impresses me as a returner but not a WR (and we need a #2 WR), and Malcolm Kelly looks to be this years Obligatory First Round WR Bust. For RB, I too covet Ray Rice. I've been campaigning as much as a Cowboy can for drafting him If he's off the board, I'd want Chris Johnson, and then perhaps Jamaal Charles.
