The main event for UFC 85 has changed three times. It was originally to be Chuck 'The Iceman' Liddell vs. Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua, but Rua got injured in training. 'Sugar' Rashad Evans stepped in to replace Shogun, but now The Iceman is also injured so that bout was scrapped as well. Sugar will now face James 'The Sandman' Irvin instead. The new main event for UFC 85 will be Matt Hughes vs. Thiago 'The Pitbull' Alves at welterweight. Matt Hughes is widely considered the #2 170-lbs fighter in the world behind current UFC Champion Georges 'Rush' St. Pierre, who has beaten him twice in the last two years. Pitbull is currently second in line for a title shot against St. Pierre behind Jon Fitch, who beat Alves in 2006. Alves is coming off a recent and controversial knockout victory over Karo 'The Heat' Parisyan at UFC Fight Night 13, while Hughes recently lost to St. Pierre on New Years at UFC 79: Nemesis.
