If Philly did not hire Ed Stefanski... A. Would Jason Kidd still be a Net? B. If not, would the trade have been better, worse or the same as the actual trade they made?
Kikipedia was the catalyst for getting the trade completed, and for the bounty we received. Initially I would look to compare Stefanski's trade history to compare the two, and I think we can agree that the KMart and Vince trades ended up being good deals, and I was impressed with their ability to get rid of Illc, McInnis, and parlay DEATHBLOW to an expiring. Additionally, Boki Nachbar was a good pick up. Still, if you would believe that the management was trying to trade Kidd last season (privately), then you must be impressed that despite his value decreasing (after he went public), we were able to pull off something better than expectations; well, at least mine.

Let's wait and see what happens this summer, which is CRITICAL to the franchise's future. Thorn and Vandeweghe have set the table, with young players, expiring contracts, draft picks, exceptions of all sizes and shapes. Lets just hope we don't wind up a happy meal on the plate after it's all over. The current roster is not going to get you much next season, unless Krstic spends a lot of the summer with Dr. Phil instead of Darko Milicic. What they've done is very nice, considering what they had to work with, but the job isn't even close to done. If somehow, they lose Krstic and Diop and can't find a replacement, draft a bust at #10, and don't use the exceptions well, they're screwed, we're screwed. From what I read, Kiki had the first conversations with the Mavs, presumably Donnie Nelson, then Thorn and Cuban were brought in to close the deal...and then remake it after the George and Stackhouse comments. I don't know who made the arrangements with KVH, but I presume it was Thorn since the hidden details appear to favor the Nets, not the Mavs. The Nets, apparently at an early stage, insisted on 1) Devin Harris, 2) DeSagana Diop, 3) two first round draft picks, and some money. George was included because of his expiring contract and the money was included so the Nets could buy out Stackhouse. (Remember as well the first iteration of the deal had the Nets getting a Mavs' second round pick...don't know which year.) We're just finding out, thanks to Iannazzone, that the KVH contract has an October buyout clause, making it a terrific trade asset between July 1 and October 31 (just like David Wesley's deal last year...Wesley was traded twice in the off-season, first for Cedric Simmons, then for Ilic and Robinson and some cash. I expect the same could happen with KVH.) We are also just finding out, thanks to Draft Express, the details of the KVH contract: $4.2 million this season, plus option years of $3.75 million in 2008-09 and $3.3 million in 2009-10. There is also the issue of the size of the trade exceptions. Thorn would not confirm press reports that they are $1.68 million and $770,000. He did say they got one for Wright, which would be $1.68 million, and one for KVH, which I simply don't understand.
i dont expect much this offseason. nobody wants rj and vc. hopefully krstic will leave. trenton hassel's contract makes me want to throw up and swift wont net much either, even being an expiring. expect pretty much thge same nucleus next year with maybe a guy like roger mason added

The team could win a championship and Jizzy would point out that it's only one championship, compared to all the losses in Nets' history. Utah wants RJ...and if Houston beats them, they will really want RJ. I am happy VC is going nowhere. I doubt anyone will make Krstic an offer the Nets won't match. Hassell is what Hassell is: a replacement in a trade that otherwise was a great move. KVH's October buyout makes him an expiring contract without a risk.
NI....with regard to the trade exceptions...wouldn't it make sense that the $770,000 was for Malik Allen, wasn't that his salary?....i think Al just made a mistake....the Mavs received a $2.6M TE in the Anthony Johnson deal....it was split into two pieces and sent to the Nets, corresponding to the salaries of Wright and Allen

What kinda trade for RJ do you think would be realistic from their viewpoint? Of course everyone will jump on something around AK47 for RJ, but is that the possibility, or something else? They do have young guards to offer up (CJ Miles, Morris Almond).
