<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (NetIncome @ Apr 27 2008, 08:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Let's wait and see what happens this summer, which is CRITICAL to the franchise's future. Thorn and Vandeweghe have set the table, with young players, expiring contracts, draft picks, exceptions of all sizes and shapes. Lets just hope we don't wind up a happy meal on the plate after it's all over. The current roster is not going to get you much next season, unless Krstic spends a lot of the summer with Dr. Phil instead of Darko Milicic. What they've done is very nice, considering what they had to work with, but the job isn't even close to done. If somehow, they lose Krstic and Diop and can't find a replacement, draft a bust at #10, and don't use the exceptions well, they're screwed, we're screwed. From what I read, Kiki had the first conversations with the Mavs, presumably Donnie Nelson, then Thorn and Cuban were brought in to close the deal...and then remake it after the George and Stackhouse comments. I don't know who made the arrangements with KVH, but I presume it was Thorn since the hidden details appear to favor the Nets, not the Mavs. The Nets, apparently at an early stage, insisted on 1) Devin Harris, 2) DeSagana Diop, 3) two first round draft picks, and some money. George was included because of his expiring contract and the money was included so the Nets could buy out Stackhouse. (Remember as well the first iteration of the deal had the Nets getting a Mavs' second round pick...don't know which year.) We're just finding out, thanks to Iannazzone, that the KVH contract has an October buyout clause, making it a terrific trade asset between July 1 and October 31 (just like David Wesley's deal last year...Wesley was traded twice in the off-season, first for Cedric Simmons, then for Ilic and Robinson and some cash. I expect the same could happen with KVH.) We are also just finding out, thanks to Draft Express, the details of the KVH contract: $4.2 million this season, plus option years of $3.75 million in 2008-09 and $3.3 million in 2009-10. There is also the issue of the size of the trade exceptions. Thorn would not confirm press reports that they are $1.68 million and $770,000. He did say they got one for Wright, which would be $1.68 million, and one for KVH, which I simply don't understand.</div> I wonder why Thorn couldn't insist on keeping Wright and substituting Hassell for Jones? Wouldn't the numbers match up? And wouldn't we be better off then cutting Jones loose and not ending up with Hassell's contract? As far as the off season goes... I have a sneaky suspicion that RJ will not get this club ANYTHING that would be an upgrade. Therefore he will remain a Net. What I'd love to see happen is that we draft DeAndre Jordan at #10; Douglas-Roberts at #21; S&T Krstic off somewhere else; Re-sign Diop; package M Williams and pieces for some shooting; make a legit run at Josh Smith, ATL cant have all those SF's and Al is their true PF
