I could see Avery landing in Chicago.

I wonder if Karl is going to get the boot? Denver seems a bit dysfunctional and I don't see him lasting in there either.

    wow, that was quick.

well, he had it coming to him. Firstly because of the two years in a row first round elimination, and secondly, well, with Kidd coming in, did he REALLY expect to keep his job for a while?

Mark Stein reported that Chicago has had internal discussions over Avery. I think he'll end up being the Bulls coach. Pretty good hire if Paxson can seal the deal. It'll make suffering through assclown Boylan worth the wait of not hiring a coach midseason.

Avery just got screwed by the Kidd trade.

Avery should wait out for the Pistons, I get the feeling if Detroit doesn't advance to the Finals, Flip is a goner.

It's obvious that Cuban trying to cover up his mistake by making it look like it was Avery's fault.

It was only last August that Donnie Nelson called Harris, Diop, Ager and Howard the "future cornerstone of the franchise".

--Now, they have lost three of the four players to the Nets, along with two draft picks that would have added to the "future cornerstone" and seen the fourth player admit to illegal drug use, look awful in the playoffs and be criticized for having a party after the most critical loss in the series.

--They lost to a division rival that is younger, more athletic and likely to get better while they get older. Their roster includes ELEVEN players who will be age 30 or older by July 1: Jason Kidd, Erick Dampier, Jason Terry, Dirk Nowitzki, Malik Allen, Devean George, Tyrone Lue, Eddie Jones, Jerry Stackhouse, Jamal Magloire and Juwan Howard. The only players under 30 are Josh Howard, Brandon Bass, Juan Jose Barea and Antoine Wright.

--They now have the biggest payroll in the NBA, bigger than the Knicks. Their free agents are all minimum salary type guys. They owe $100 million to Kidd, Dampier, Stackhouse, Terry and Jones...

--They took on $11 million in extra salary and luxury taxes as a result of the Kidd trade, for which they got nothing.

--They now have to make a decision on extending Kidd, who looked every day of 35 years old. Reports just before the trade had the Mavs giving Kidd a gentlemens agreement to extend him for two years and $20 million. Kidd has said recently he wants to play til he is 38 and retire as a Mav. Do the math...that means he wants a two year extension.

--They wound up firing the NBA coach with the highest winning percentage of active coaches.

    WOW.

Avery Johnson is the fastest head coach to 150 wins ever. In my mind, if guys like Byron Scott and Doc Rivers can get canned and land on their feet just fine, Avery Johnson would be a great pickup.

But like ToddMac said, Flip Saunders could also get fired. Think about this, Avery, D'Antoni, and Flip could all be on the coaching market this summer. Three of the winningest coaches in the NBA this decade.

Imagine if the Celtics lost the series and Doc was fired. Then every jobless coach would want to come to Beantown. (d'antoni, avery, etc)

If Rivers got canned, I could see Avery going to Boston (out of the 3 other possibly canned coaches) and being the most successful.

You think he would be more successful with the current Celtics team than Doc has been?

Eh, he'd probably be just as successful in the regular season...but I'd expect him to become more successful in the playoffs, especially with the presence of a true post scorer in Garnett and with a point guard that would be seemingly (in my opinion, at least) more to his liking.

Im just wondering if what thorn said about frank being here next season is real, or he might change his mind? Because there will be at least 3 or 4 very good coaches on the market. I dont want to lose out on the opportunity to get a good coach.

I think the only coach Thorn would consider making a change for is Eddie Jordan, and he would probably try and get him as an assistant first.

He would never hire Avery. I think Devin's head would explode if that happened.
