If we land one of the top 2 picks in the draft, Paxson needs to make a strong play for Dirk. Dirk would be surrounded by tough players, who are pretty gritty defensively. He is the go to guy we'd need, and there would be plenty of offensive talent to complement Dirk. Things are obviously looking hopeless in Dallas. They are a team that lacks depth, and have a lot of money locked up into a few guys, and made a mistake in trading for an aging Kidd. They may opt to rebuild. If we get a top 2 pick, we are in a perfect position to make a trade with them. Bulls Trade: Tyrus Thomas, Larry Hughes, Beasley/Rose for Dirk Nowitzki. PG-Kirk Hinrich/Chris Duhon SG-Ben Gordon/Thabo Sefolosha SF-Luol Deng/Andres Nocioni PF-Dirk Nowitzki/Drew Gooden C- Joakim Noah/Aaron Gray I'm not Dirk's biggest fan, but he'd be a perfect fit with the rest of our team.
Deng or Gordon plus #2 pick plus bench players, then the Mavs might consider it. You thought the same with Kobe, that you could get him for cheap, but remember that Dirk is an allstar, top ten player in the league, and a former mvp.

Exactly cpawfan. Trading for Dirk, you gotta give Dallas some talent back, so again thats either Deng or Gordon, then a bunch of other players included (insert tyrus thomas here), and then the Mavs might consider the deal.

That situation is too hard to read, since it seems like Kobe never really wanted to leavei nthe first place and was just being a drama queen. Then again, there was no #2 pick (Durant/Oden0 or (Rose/Beasley) that we had to offer (as we would in this scenario). Giving up a top pick in the draft, and a young prospect is not getting Dirk cheap. We don't give up established players, but signing and trading Deng/Gordon, and then not getting Thomas or the #1/2 pick probably isn't the way that Dallas would want to go about rebuilding. Dirk will also be 30 years old in 2 months. Look at what the Celtics got for KG. Al Jefferson and a bunch of mediocre prospects.

BG7, do you think Cuban is a Bulls homer? Cause just a number 2 pick won't get you Dirk. Dirk is worth much more then that, no matter how much you refuse to admit it. You'll need like CK has said probably to give up Gordon or Deng. I would trade Gordon, the #2 pick and Tyrus Thomas. They might consider it then.
Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, and crap picks. Baron Davis for Dale Davis and Speedy Claxton. The Rockets were considering trading Ralph Sampson for the #3 pick in 1984, after Sampson put 21 pts and 11 rebs in his rookie season. If the Mavs want to rebuild, this is a VERY realistic trade. If they don't want to rebuild, they won't trade Dirk. Simple as that; it is all dependent on what direction Cuban ultimately decides he wants to go.

Not all of them are as dumb as Paxson. Additionally, if the Mavs want to rebuild, that is not anything close to a realistic trade.
And who says they have to full-out rebuild? Nowitzki's still just entering the prime of his career and there's no reason to tear it all down so quickly. This thread is stupid on so many levels.
One thing's for sure, the Mavs are going to need to do something. They've got 6 players on the books for about $80M, which means they still have to bring in 8 players and they're already paying $9M in luxury tax before doing that. For a team that doesn't look very good at all. If I'm the Bulls, what would I want from that group? Kidd? Too old. Dirk... really he's several years older than most of the Bulls as well. I don't see how we'd get him for a song the way BG7 thinks we could. The only way that'd make sense is if we could figure out how to do a Boston type thing where we get another guy to go with him. How would we do that? Howard... athletic wing who can slash to the basket when not smoking out. Boy, that kid hurt his stock a lot. Plus we're loaded at his position. I'd rather pay Deng $8M than Howard $9.5M. Dampier or Stackhouse? How does that help us? Actually I'd prefer Dampier to Larry Hughes or Nocioni, but I don't see any reason for the Mavs to do something like that.
Yea, I'll have to say no to Dirk. I've never been a fan of his, at all. He's a big softy that's not that great on defense, something the Bulls were ineffective at last year. Plus, he's not really going to solve our post problem. He does most of his scoring on the perimeter and again, his post defense is as poor as it gets with a big. If we get a high pick, I say we use it, unless we have an opportunity at someone who can actually turn this franchise around, which Dirk would not do.
Maybe Dirk could be had for something along the lines of what BG7 posted. If Cuban's got it into his head that he needs to get under the LT threshold, then something's gotta give. Not sure what Dallas would be thinking in terms of where to go from here if they did trade Dirk for just about any package of players and picks. I disagree he's just getting into his prime. He's a FORMER MVP. Not unlike how Ben Wallace was a FORMER DPOY. About the same age as Wallace when the Bulls opened the check book for him. He might have a couple more good years left in him; I seriously doubt he's going to win the MVP ever again. He simply isn't enough, by himself, to turn things around for us and make us real contenders. MiikeDC is right that it would only make sense if we're bringing in at least one more player his caliber, if not two. Like it or not, we're better off sucking and hoping that some guy we draft turns into a much younger player who's a superduperstar.
I really don't understand why Cuban would give up half of his young players for an older player in Kidd and then rebuild. If Dallas can pick up one or two good bench players this offseason, they'll be right in the thick of things again next year. They've only had 30 games to adjust to playing w/ Kidd.
