<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"I am planning on coming back as a reliever first, and more than likely for the rest of this year," Smoltz said in a text message to the newspaper late Wednesday.</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"I hear people say that we can't win without me as a starter," Smoltz told MLB.com. "But we're not going to win with me as a five-inning starter either."</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Asked Wednesday whether Smoltz could go back to being a closer, Cox said: "We are always thinking about it."

In the next breath, Cox added: "I like him as a starter."</div>

Hard to argue with the part about him being a five inning pitcher not helping the team. Their bullpen isn't very good unless he's in it. Although you could say the same about the rotation.

when was smoltz named the manager of the Braves? His role is what the manager says it is. Who does he think he is--Jason Kidd?

The Braves bullpen is actually fairly deep, especially since Mike Gonzalez will be coming off the DL about the same time as Smoltz.

Smotlz knows his arm and he knows what is required to be a top starter and a top reliever.

Ejection Cox really should listen to him
