<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>So the Mavericks proceeded Wednesday with the first coaching hunt of the Cuban Era, with Nelson Jr. leading the search. Sources say Rick Carlisle will be the first interviewee, possibly as soon as Thursday, with Jeff Van Gundy also on the Mavs' list if Van Gundy shows interest in coaching next season.

Flip Saunders? Mike D'Antoni? Maybe even Eddie Jordan? Each of those guys, too, would likely be summoned for an interview if cut loose from their current teams.</div>

An NBA source said Mike D'Antoni is first on Dallas' wish list to replace Johnson.

Chicago and New York also might be interested in D'Antoni, but GM Kerr said he would not grant permission to a team wishing to speak with D'Antoni.

Avery Johnson was let go as Dallas' head coach earlier this week.</div>

D'Antoni would be great for Dallas and I think he would be up for the job. Thats why I thought he would never go to Toronto (even with the GM connection) since he wants to be at a team which will be a contender and obviously Dallas will be a contender next year.
