If there is any inkling of truth to Toronto leaning on moving TJ, I would move McCants and more to get him. http://www.basketball-reference.com/.....;/fordtj01.html Take a look at his per 36 minute numbers for this season. The kid averaged 6.1 assists in 23.6 minutes per this season. He's a quick distributing guard that could get the best out of Al Jefferson.
There's a very real possibility that the Raps will be looking to move TJ this summer, but its not a foregone conclusion yet. Colangelo's already committed himself to re-signing Jose Calderon no matter what (we can match any offer). That's not a problem in itself. However, TJ is incapable of being a bench player. He's publicly stated many times that he views himself as a starting PG and after he came back from his injury, he had a very difficult time playing off the bench (both with his play and his attitude). That basically means that the platoon situation that we've had for the past two seasons will only work if Jose comes off the bench. Now Jose's been willing to do that, but at the end of the day, he is the better point guard and this team plays better with him in the starting lineup. If its a case where one of our point guards is sacrificing his development for another and the results are not living up to expectations (like the second half of this season), then I can see Colangelo dealing TJ.
#1) I think that, for like many teams, it will come down to the draft. If Minny doesn't win the D.Rose sweepstakes and doesn't get a top 2 pick they should trade McCants for TJ and then pick up E. Gordon to take his place as scoring punch of the bench. #2)But even if Minny ends up with Beasley, they can still do the trade FOR TJ Scenerio #1- PG-TJ Ford SG-Foye SF-Brewer PF-Gomes C-AL 6th-E. Gordon -------------------------------- Scenerio #2- PG-TJ Ford SG-Foye SF-Beasley PF-Gomes C-AL 6th-Brewer -------------------------------- *Not to mention I'm still big on the idea of trading our two 2nd rounders (both projected top 1-4 pick of the second rd.) for another mid 1sr round pick (Phoenix's Atlanta proj. #15) *or the two 2nd rouders and Boston's next year 1st rounder to try and get a second pick in the top 10 Either one can get us a big man to play along Big Al and help him on the boards and blocks
