http://startelegram.typepad.com/mavs_fullc...very-sessi.html "Before we made the trade, we had the best record against the Western Conference and one of the things that I talked to Mark and Donnie about, I said: ‘Hey, I’ve got to get a point guard.’ That’s why I wanted to develop Devin Harris. I said I’ve got to get this boy to a point where he can be a scorer first and pass some. We got him to a point, like I told you guys before, we were knocking on the door with this young man making the All-Star team. He was going to be an 18-and-8 player. I invested a significant amount of time with him and, again, he was injured and a lot of things were happening around the NBA, and like I said, if we can just hold on a little while, we’ve got the best record against the West. I think we were second or third in the Western Conference at that point and we were going to play the Western Conference quite a bit after the All-Star break. The team was changed and we never really got back on track." “I’m on record as what my feelings were and it’s over with now. It was something that was tried and it didn’t take us anywhere that was close. We were struggling to make the playoffs, so it didn’t nearly bring us the rewards that we wanted. But who’s to say that even if it did, if we had gotten to the second round or the third round that this particular move and my situation still wouldn’t have been made?”

he seems like a nice guy and obviously knows his basketball but nets would Def. need some changes in the assistant coaching and he would def. fit in there. if management is not gonna fire frank on his many failed attempts on passing the second round, why not do SOMETHING in the coaching "area". this team would be so much better as a running team like phoenix but they got no shooters though........ WHATS WRONG WITH THE NETS !!! PROBLEMS EVERYWHERE !!!!
Johnson won't be an assistant. He will probably be the coach in Chicago, and if not, in Phoenix or New York. The man with the best winning % in NBA history won't be an assistant. Nice to see him lay some smackdown on the Kidd trade. Nets got a steal with Devin Harris for Kidd.

Wow. I honestly cannot wait for the 2009 season to start and see how Devin does with this team. Is 18-8 possible next year? I think so.
Just finished reading the whole transcript. Everyone should give it a read. It's very interesting and really dives deep into the view from a coach, and working with players and the front office.

We have one here in Dirk. You got to have really strong, strong play at the center position and you got to have in this day and age a speedy, quick point guard, or somebody, a guard that will dribble-drive and get that ball to the free throw line. cuban declines to re-sign nash at around $10M/yr because he thought nash who was already in his 30s at the time will be on the decline but then signs kidd who is 36 making $21.3M next year...

In all honesty, as Nets fans we should all thank the incompetent Chris Wallace of the Grizzlies for us getting Harris. Had Wallace not been duped into giving Gasol away to the Lakers and instantly making them a championship team in the West, I highly doubt Cuban would have pulled the trigger on that Harris-Kidd theft. Bottom line is the Mavericks saw that deal (and to a lesser extent the Suns/Shaq deal); they panicked and decided to trade for Kidd.

I wouldn't go that far. That is more like Boylan to Avery. Skiles is a little in the middle, he at least had the team playing great defense. His offense was by far the worst in the league, and completely idiotic, but man, did we play good defense.
