Offseason Plan Free Agency: Sign Mikael Pietrus Explanation- We need a veteran wing who can defend and fill the lane on the fast break Draft: Trade Devin Harris and the #10 pick for #1 Pick Draft Derrick Rose #1 Explanation- I know most people would be reluctant to give up on Harris so quickly but I feel like he is more of a solid piece than that guy you build around. Rose on the other hand can be that type of player. He has elite athleticism and fantastic ball handling skills along with a terrific work ethic. He will be a franchise player by being a terrific asset on both sides of the court Trade Richard Jefferson to Portland for the #13 Pick, Jarret Jack, and Raef LaFrentz Draft Nicholas Batum #13 Explanation- Jefferson has focused a lot more on offense, which isn’t a bad thing, but it has come at the cost of his defense. He is no longer the terrific perimeter defender that would induce bad nights for opposing forwards and shooting guard. Unless the FO thinks he can recapture that they should ship out for the above deal. Batum is definitely a pick based on potential and I know a lot of people will cringe at the thought of picking up some European player. However, he is already a very good perimeter defender (gasp!) with all the tools and has the potential to be ridiculous weapon on the other end as well. Draft Darrell Arthur #21 Explanation- Arthur, while an underachiever, gives us something we lack on our roster of big men: a natural scorer. If he’s available at this point, he is also a steal value-wise in my opinion. He is solid, though not spectacular, defensively and is pretty polished offensively. His game compliments Boone/Williams very well. Opening Day Lineup: PG: Rose/Jack/VC SG: VC/Rose SF: Pietrus/Batum PF: Williams/Boone/Arthur C: Boone/Williams Team Concept: This team is build around two key ingredients- speed and defense. Every position has above average defenders, even VC is pretty good (stop laughing… okay you can, just a little though) and they can all run the break effectively. Long term I could see Williams bulking up a bit and being a Theo Ratliff like presence as a center, while Arthur has the potential to be solid defensively while being able to score in so many different ways. Boone would be the best backup big we had since young A-Train was waiting on the sidelines to go in. Batum is very much a Marion player if he reaches full potential, the elite defender/athlete who fills in all the blanks (and the box score ). All things considered this is a great lineup in the short and long run. Comments? Questions? Please don't mindlessly bash it took me some time to write this up.

NO ONE is trading Devin Harris, who is at 25 on the threshold of stardom, for a 20 year old who is an unknown NBA quantity. And I am always amazed at trade/draft scenarios that don't include the 2010 UNPROTECTED Mavs pick. Thorn doesn't like trading Nets first round picks...did it only once and that was for other first round picks. (Sold one at Ratner's insistence). But he has been willing to trade others' first round picks and looking at the Mavs' roster, you can see the 2010 pick's value. ELEVEN of the Mavs 15 players are 30 or older. Most of those eleven have long-term contracts or are due an extension (else they will suffer multiple migraines). That would be Kidd, Nowitzki, Stackhouse, Dampier, Terry and Eddie Jones.
haha, i love how people talk about batum like they know him, you can tell because they all focus on his best case positives...his defense is deplorable at this point.

We can agree to disagree on Devin Harris though I hope you are right and I am wrong if he stays on the Nets. I just like pure point guards so maybe I am biased against him. Thanks for the response though.

Rose had unbelievable upside and can be on the level of Paul/Deron for the next 10 years. In fact, if we could do that deal, I would make it in a second. I'm crossing my fingers we get #1 or #2 for Rose. And I was on the Paul bandwagon on the old NJ.com forum, in his last season at GTech, saying (in jest because it was unreasonable back then) that we should trade Kidd for a high pick to nab Paul. I see the same future for Rose, maybe even better.

I would draft if available at #13 either CDR or Budinger. And I would absolutely love if we can trade our first round pick and Harris for Rose. Rose is in the same catergory as Paul and Williams already as a pg to many scouts. And the scary thing is that he isnt in the nba yet and hes only 20 years old and he truly would be the point guard of the future. In other words make this happen if possible. But i doubt it will happen.

If I had the #1 pick I'd take Beasley over Rose any day of the week. Now if we only had a chance at the #2 pick, then I'd take Rose. Plus the last time a PG was taken first overall was 1996, when the 76ers picked up AI. And AI isn't technically a PG. I like the idea, but with #1, I think Beasley would be the wiser choice. An inside outside game of Beasley and VC, with some shooters would be pretty nice in the East.

Rose
IMO Rose is a better player than Beasly. Beasly is listed at 6"10 but really he is 6"8. So i dont know how dominant he can ne in the nba if he plays agaisnt a D Howard or Duncan, add to that that his D isnt that great. In Rose you have a very fast 6'3 pure pg that can score and pass with ease. His defense is above averege and his potential is immense. I dont think Beasly is " the big man every team dreams of because they get you rings" e c Duncan, Shaq & Hakeem to name a few. Thats what happened last year with portalnd taking Oden over Durant. I agree with them picking Oden over Durant because Oden is domnant and has all the tools to become a great player unlike Beasly.
