<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum, who has been out since January with a knee injury, is unlikely to return during the playoffs, the Los Angeles Times reported. Andrew Bynum Bynum "I doubt there's going to be a comeback this year," Andrew Bynum told the Times on Friday. "I've got to get my knee straight. At this point, I'd have to train for a good month just to be able to go out there and play." The injured Lakers center is not planning to start practicing anytime soon. If the Lakers were to make the NBA Finals, the earliest start date for the series would be June 3. Bynum briefly dislocated his left knee cap. He has a bone bruise in the same knee, which has caused him to sit out since Jan. 13. Bynum said the knee is no longer swelling but is painful. "It's frustrating because I can do everything but what pertains to basketball -- running and jumping, defensive slides," he told the Times. Bynum averaged 17.3 points and 12.2 rebounds in six games in January before he was injured.</div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3379418 So I guess even if Lakers did make finals he wont be back. I still think Lakers got a great shot at winning a championship though.. So much for the predictions of his return Lakers medical staff was not even close.. hahah.
Black Mamba called it. Just imagine next year with everyone fully healthy, I get goosebumps thinking about it.
Well with a good month of training, he said he could be out there playing. Doesn't seem likely for earlier though.
I kind of saw it coming but I think it's better to take it slow so it won't hurt later in his career. But next year the Lakers are going to take the NBA Championship. Back to Back Champions
I've thought this for a couple of months now; this reminded me of the Harrison situation in Indy. At first it doesn't seem too serious, there was no "tearing" of any ligaments (IIRC), but the knee couldn't heal properly and it was loaded with fluid.
The injury itself healed fine, according to the radio. The problem seems to be he pushed himself/the training staff pushed him too hard in his rehab, too soon and it simply just kept swelling up and then pain re-appeared. Bynum then reset his rehab and got back into the pool, after his visit to NY. I fully expect him to be 100% healthy next year. It was a freak accident and his first real injury in the NBA. In HS, he tore a ligament in his knee, but in today's world, a torn ligament is nothing when you're young. Today's medical options and surgeries are so much more advanced that if you rehab correctly (which he did) you shouldn't have any ligament problems unless there is another freak accident.

Not really surprised. There's no need to rush him back. Honestly, I believe we're fine. He's 20 years old, and there's no need to risk his entire future just to bring him off the bench for a couple of minutes in the playoffs (even if he did return, he wasn't going to play much anyways). Let him heal up as long as he wants, and let him go through another summer of training under KAJ. Then when training camp arrives, pair him up with Gasol and let Phil work his magic. Best of luck to Andrew, hope to see you back 110%
