I think sixth man is a worst case scenario.

This guy is definitely good enough to be a starter in the NBA. He's only 19!

I wouldn't worry about his defense, with at least 2 of Boone, Diop, and Sean, Love could probably do a decent job on one guy while the guy he's playing next to covers the other one. Its not like many teams have two great scoring big men. If he can provide some offense, and rebound well, he could be another guy I wouldn't mind, right now I'd probably put him 8th or 9th on my list, and hope Randolph or Jordan is taken in the top 9 (or we could just move up in the lotto).

Is he absolutely a great shooter? I'd at least want that.

What's wrong with relating a player directly to the Nets, who have a pick almost exactly where this player will probably be drafted?

People in the prospect forum don't care how he fits next to Josh Boone.

Funny that I didn't see any relation to the Nets in either of the first 2 posts in this thread, by the person who made it!

Which is why cpawfan pointed out that there is a prospects forum.

I wanted to talk about him as related to the Nets, though, so this is as good a thread as any.

He's an interesting guy. I'm still not sure how I'd feel if the Nets take him. I'm leaning toward positive but nervous.

I didn't read the rest of the thread.

I like Kevin Love, but we can only enjoy him if we take him and call him "the Lovemaker".

If the Nets draft him, Sussman's probably going to have a stroke.

Ok, now i'm prefacing this by saying i've only seen a little bit of Kevin during his time at UCLA and this may be waaay off, but would a Gugliotta comparison be an incorrect one?

He seems like a kid who could come in and be a steady player, not necessarily need to be a star, can board, can shoot from midrange at a decent clip, surprise some defenders with a decent post game, and a guy who while may not be a stellar athlete can be a guy who gets by on his smarts and positioning.

Now admittedly it's easy to go on the "they're both white" thing but watching him reminded me of the Googs on Minnesota and Phoenix who if ya didn't pay attention could silently kill you on any given night.

Maybe i'm off and the 3 people who remember 'ol Googs can enlighten me on the differences but I just think some of the comparisons I read on Love have been kinda odd.

Then if it is a close comparison, the second question would be can a player like Googs still be effective today?

Googs was very in shape and far more athletic than Love

Is Love a kid who could get there by changing his diet? Or are we looking at a kid who is pretty much showing what he has and it will only be improved slightly by getting in NBA game shape?

Googs was a solid athlete this is true, even when he bulked up later on to be competitive in the post defensively, but are their games similar or am I getting hung up on the whiteboy comparison?

Whiteboy - Googs was a guy that had to work hard on his game and develop himself all through college while Love, as ghoti mentioned, has always had it easy. Googs was a far better defender than Love could become, was a high flier and could beat his man from the perimeter to the rim.

I doubt Love will ever Oliver Miller himself out of the league, but I doubt he makes a Boozer-like total transformation of his body

Ok that sounds fair to me, like I said i'm basically going off a handful of games and that doesn't give you much to go on.

It's true that mindset and determination are really key in what kind of a player he can become. He seems to have a nice set of tools and it seems like everything i've read points to a path where he's a good player but it will take him a bit to fully understand what a proper diet and off season regiment can do a la Zach Randolph or Elton Brand.

If a trade looks bleak and we're going big I wouldn't mind us taking a gamble on a kid who has the tools over a raw player a la Jordan even if we have to monitor his Twinkie intake. Our team is about being smart as much as it is athleticism.

Love is the son of an NBA player and the first cousin of Brian Wilson.

Like I said, he's been the man his whole life and everything he's done so far has been easy for him.

He hasn't had to go on a diet, be in shape, commit himself to hard work. It'll be interesting how he deals with adversity.

Well in HS, he handled adversity over playing time by having his Dad tell the coach that if he didn't get more playing time Kevin was going to be transferring schools.

But is that Kevin handling it, or his father?

on realgm it says he is drawing interest from the Clippers, Heat, Nets and Knicks. I doubt the Heat take him where they draft, same with Knicks. Clippers are borderline. He seems to be moving up, value should be high, maybe he'll be the guy we get. Or maybe we'll send #10 to the Clips, either in a move for Brand, or perhaps packaging it with 21 for #7.

    That is exactly my point.

This guy has never had to fight for anything in his life. Everyone around him has made it smooth sailing all the way for him.

A lot of these kids are like that, but they aren't all short, fat dudes trying to play center in the NBA.

Love would be a nice fit in the big man rotation. Love would be the best low post scorer on the team, and is a big man who you can actually involve in the offense, in a half court set. You can't feature Boone or SWill, or even run plays through them at this point. Nenad was the only viable big man option, and that was mostly for pick and pops, and he hasn't been the same since the knee injury.

Also, can't you imagine Love throwing those home run outlets to a streaking Devin Harris or RJ? [IMG]
