<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>By Steve Springer, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer 3:49 PM PDT, May 5, 2008 Lakers center Andrew Bynum, his January knee injury still preventing him from returning to the court, will seek a second medical opinion, the Lakers said today. He will see Dr. Steven Gecha on Wednesday in Princeton, N.J. While it had been expected that Bynum, 20, would not be back for this postseason, this decision would appear to not only cement that scenario but it also creates concern that Bynum's recovery could extend into the summer or beyond.</div> http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakers...0,7864164.story Good thing we're playing well without him, we might have to get used to it.
lol @ this whole thing. Bynum will be back in 8 weeks. Nope, he'll be back in the playoffs. OMFGZZZ!!! He's going to return a week before the playoffs! Nope, he'll return in the playoffs. OH NOEZZZZ!!! 6 more weekzzzz!!!! He could be back in the WCF/Finals. WHAT“? NOEZ!! He's done for the year. OH NOEZ!!!! INJURY WILL EXTENDZ TO DA SUMMERZ!!!! what the hell. This whole situation has been fucked up from the beginning. I don't even care anymore. When he gets healthy, he'll be healthy. I wouldn't be surprised at all to wake up tomorrow and read "BYNUM OUT UNTIL 2010ZZZZ!!!!!
I had a feeling from the beggining that this was much more serious then they let on and that his recovery was gonna take longer than they thought. I just hope he can be at 100% by training camp of next year.
Doesn't matter? Are you on crack? Yes, 8+ weeks was called for, but the fucker should've got surgery if the injury could hamper him into the summer, or beyond.

I don't care that we're doing well, I really miss seeing Andrew out there (remember how much I used to diss him and call him a soft, a complete 180 over here). I miss those alley-oops to Bynum, I miss that dude
Guys... i hate to say it but... Without Bynum... The odds of beating Boston just decreased... I really hoped that we would face the Celtics, or even the Hornets for that matter at full strength
Lol how did they decrease? Boston owned us both times this year when we faced them with a healthy Bynum? Perkins got into Bynum's head with his physical play.
Boston looks softer now, I'd stop freaking out. We just need to make sure we can seal the deal and get out of the West first.
Stop thinking about Boston. There's no guarentee we will even make it past the second round. Just take it one step at a time, and when we're there, then we'll talk. And as things are looking right now, Boston may not even make it to the Finals. And I'm sure if we do somehow end up facing them, Phil Jackson will outcoach Doc Rivers by a thousand miles.
I wouldn't say never return. Knee injuries have this stigma of being career-ending..they're not, anymore. The medical field has advanced so much that knee injuries don't end careers. A torn ligament in today's world is very easy to heal and strengthen, post surgery. The rehab and therapy that athletes go through today is so much more advanced than post eras. Unless Bynum's knee is COMPLETELY blown out, which it obviously isn't, then there is nothing to worry about. Worst possible scenario? They do exploratory surgery and discover some cartilage tearing, a deep ligament tear, meniscus tear, or micro-fracture and surgery is required. The kid is very, very young, his body is fine. The problem is the staff and Bynum himself probably pushed himself too fast.

Kupchak was on the radio yesterday with some candid comments about Bynum's status. The knee has healed and Bynum doesn't need any extensive surgery. The problem is Bynum re-aggravated his knee during his rehab so he's still experiencing discomfort and swelling. The surgery Bynum might undergo in the off season is minor knee surgery to do some cleaning around the knee. It's a sound decision for the team to not rush him back and I think they're smart to have the mindset that they are going to be without him the rest of the year. He's still very young and the Lakers are capable of winning it all without him. The Lakers had one of the strongest finishes in the regular season and were the only team to sweep their 1st round opponent. The Lakers have homecourt advantage in every series in the West, and if Boston doesn't come out of the East, the Lakers would have homecourt advantage in the Finals.
