<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>NEW YORK -- The NBA admitted Chauncey Billups' 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter of Monday's Detroit-Orlando playoff game should not have counted, but said referees weren't allowed to review instant replay to determine that. League president Joel Litvin also said the disputed shot, which gave Detroit a 78-76 lead in its 100-93 victory, could not have been replayed after the clock malfunction was discovered. "After reviewing the video of last night's Pistons-Magic game, we determined that the play that concluded with Chauncey Billups' 3-point field goal at the end of the third quarter took approximately 5.7 seconds," Litvin said in a statement. "Because there were only 5.1 seconds remaining in the quarter when the play began, the shot would not have counted had the clock continued to run."</div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2008...tory?id=3384577
If the Magic woulda played to the whistle, this all would be a moot point. If you was in the refs shoes, what would you do? Stuck passed the ball back to Chauncy becouse there was time left on the clock. To say that they it shuldnt of counted is bull.

You're reasoning is absolutely ridiculous. You're being an insane homer.

He glanced at the clock and saw there was time for one more pass. Anyone would do that. But to say the shot should have counted is where you are wrong, wrong, wrong. The refs should have redone the play from the start with a working clock.
It is a hole in the rules. The malfunction was discovered too late. If the refs don't notice the malfunctioning clock and stop play immediately, play goes on as if the clock is working properly.

This "estimation" shit is just stupid.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Detroit Free Press - TNT analyst Charles Barkley believes that the Magic were cheated on Monday night when officials decided to count a three-pointer by Chauncey Billups that the league admitted on Tuesday should not have counted, according to The Detroit Free Press. "(The Magic) just got cheated. It turned out to be a big play in the game, that’s what disappoints me the most. That’s just bad," Barkley said on a TNT telecast of Detroit's Game Two win. "They should’ve started the play over. If they didn’t know (the time), they should’ve started over because Orlando got screwed in that situation. I know (the Pistons) didn’t try to do it, but they should’ve taken (the ball) out and started over," Barkley added.</div> link Charles thinks the Magic got cheated. I agree with him. Also, Kenny's take on this (which I also agree with): <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Smith on the clock mishap at the end of the third quarter of the Magic/Pistons Game 2: “Momentum at the start of quarters and at the end of the quarters is big. (The Pistons) were able to end the quarter with a three giving them momentum. That’s big in the NBA. But normally, if you couldn’t tell when they started the clock…you’ve got to take it back out from the beginning (and start the play over). You still have the same 5.1 seconds to operate. How can you allow the basket, if you don’t know how much time actually went off? Plays will start over with inadvertent whistles, same way; this was an inadvertent clock that did not start. How can you continue to play?</div>
