    Chinese Star's Career Likely Over

nbadraft.net - 05/10 - 5:50 AM ESTAccording to a report by Aran Smith from NBADraft.net, top Chinese prospect Xu Yong has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer that is extremely dangerous and if confirmed will likely end his basketball career and even worse could potentially end his life.

Yong is best prospect to come out of China since Yao Ming, according to Smith.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Xu Yong
    Birthdate: 3/30/89
    NBA Position: Shooting Guard
    Team: Shanghai
    Ht: 6-7
    Wt: 195
    Hometown: Shanghai, China

    NBA Comparison: Grant Hill

Strengths: One of the brightest hopes in Asia. Everything he does is smooth. He is a very fluid athlete who makes the game look easy. Always on balance, a set of excellent fundamentals. Has star quality. Still very young but Looks to be his listed age of 1988, and if so has a tremendous amount of potential. Has exceptional leaping ability and body control. Already has a nice frame, which will only improve. He has guard skills and could end up over 6-9.

Weaknesses: Not a fiery type of charater. Will need to gain more of an attitude to be great. Still very young and lacks experience. Needs to get "nasty" and learn to be a star. He has all the tools, does he want to dominate?

Notes: Was one of the youngest and still one of the top scorers at the adidas Asia All Star event.

Damn, that's too bad for China and extremly bad for him. From the looks of it, he might have been something on the court. best of luck to him and his family

He's not starting anything, he's just pointing it out.

I feel horrible for the kid and for his family. So young, with a bright future and this happens. I'm wishing him all the best and I hope he can overcome this horrific part of his life.

Didn't Sun Ming Ming have some medical problems too?

I've heard some crazy things about the way China treats their athletes. They are trained and worked extremely hard from the time they are children.

I wonder if this has any direct correlation with these Chinese players getting hurt.

That guy had trouble being consistent in summer league games so he keeps having trouble making the final rosters

    That's a damn shame.

Always hate to see someone's career end because of medical reasons.

Sun Ming Ming had a brain tumor, I believe, but he had the surgery to get rid of it. He plays for some lower league of some sorts. I think the same one Dennis Rodman played in with that Long Beach team. I dunno.

On another note: I think Yuta plays with the NBDL right now.

And on asian guards: The Lakers drafted Sun Yue in the past year's draft and he is projected to probably come in next year. He is 6'9" and plays point and is also a lefty.

On this guy: It is so unfortunate for him because in China he is a star, and it means so much to not only him, but also his family to finally come into the NBA and bring his family along with him. I can tell you now, living in America is much much better than living in China. Poor guy, best of luck to him.
