<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Jose Calderon has finally admitted he wants to be a starter, which is fine, because he should be one. So either the Spanish point guard must be moved by the Toronto Raptors in a sign-and-trade or T. J. Ford -- the nominal starter, deserving or not -- has to be shipped away. The tandem bike has to be turned into a unicycle. Or into a bicycle, maybe. The metaphor's murky, there. Either way, we're just wondering: Since Mike D'Antoni, just hired to coach New York, has long run a system predicated on point guard play ? and since his candidates on the Knicks are shoot-first problems like Stephon Marbury and Nate Robinson ? and since the Raptors clearly have to deal one of their two point guards ? could the Knicks and Raptors make a deal? How about a deal centred on Ford for shooting guard Jamal Crawford, who can and probably will seek a contract extension this summer, and is the kind of 20-point perimeter scorer the Raptors lack?</div> http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/story.html?id=509896
Calderon fits D'Antoni's system better than Ford. BC should have just hired him to coach the Raps. Would have been a terrific fit.

Seems like it would make sense for both sides. NY actually does have some pieces that might be appealing to Toronto- Crawford, Nate Robinson (he'd be awesome as a scoring 6th man on a running team, sort of like a smaller Monta Ellis), Balkman, Collins, picks, etc. I'm sure D'Antoni is going to want a PG. He'll probably hold out and see if his team can land a top pick but outside of the draft I think one of the Toronto PGs would be his best option.
Crawford would be a good addition, especially since he isn't the little punk he was when he first entered the league. I really don't think Knicks should be shipping him to Toronto, though. He and David Lee are the only bright spots of the NY Knicks. Acquiring Ford seems like another one of those typical trades for NY.
too bad the trade dosnt work possibility the trade for ford doesnt work, cuz of BYC but the above works
Crawford and Calderon would give us one of the worst defensive backcourts in the NBA. I'd rather have David Lee, who isn't a great defender either, but is someone who could EXPLODE in the right situation.
Never seen people so excited for Jamal Crawford before. I see Calderon being Mardy Collins with better scoring abilities. Id love to see Jamal and Nate out of New York because they represent what is wrong with the knicks. We need defense and most importantly heart. A Calderon would fit with D'antonis system.

Donnie Walsh is a heckuva GM, but people underestimate just how much Isiah's set this team back. Walsh is going to have to dismantle this team over the next couple seasons before he can even begin to start building it properly. As a result, I see them using their tradeable assets (Crawford, Lee, etc.) to entice other teams to take some of their crappier contracts off their hands, rather than using them to bring in more salary. Also, I don't think TJ Ford's a great fit for a D'Antoni offense. His lack of outside shooting makes the pick-and-roll much easier to defend.

If the Knicks goal is to clear cap... Lee is a player they are going to have to part with to move contracts/make moves, unless they can work some magic. -Petey
