<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Once Mike D'Antoni is formally named to succeed Isiah Thomas, he is expected to try to make a push for two of his favorite Suns -- forward Boris Diaw and guard Leandro Barbosa, who reportedly have fallen out of favor with Suns management. According to a person close to D'Antoni, one of his first moves would be to get the Knicks to offer Stephon Marbury and his expiring $22 million contract as a central part of the deal. "He loves Boris and Barbosa and he didn't like Marbury when he had him," said the source. "So this is the type of move that can jump-start D'Antoni's program right off the bat. He went to New York with the notion that he will have input and help alter the roster to get his kind of players." "D'Antoni and Marbury is going to be a bad fit," the source predicted. "He views Marbury as a shooting guard, anyway."</div> New York Daily News
No matter how much the Suns management isn't high on Barbosa or Diaw, it'd be ludicrous to trade them for Marbury. He's past his prime and a waste of cap room.

Well, that's the only way the deal would be worth it. And I do believe you're right. But still, would you want to trade a PG who's lightning off the bench and versatile PF for Marbs? Doesn't seem smart, unless they're looking to get capspace and make a run at some big FA in a couple years.
He doesn't need those guys. The Knicks have players who can do what they do. They need to use Marbury's contract to replace Zach Randolph, who can't play for D'Antoni and will bring back nothing in a trade.

I think it would be a great move. Marburys era as a knick is over, best thing he could ever do for this franchise is to bring 2 players who pour their guts out on the court. Barbosa and Diaw are two players who want to prove themselves and on the knicks, theyre instant starters.
I read something somewhere that made me cringe....basically: they used "running style" in the same sentence with "Zach Randolph and Eddy Curry"
It's an interesting trade rumor, but I don't think it has much legs. I just find it hard to believe D'Antoni would come right in and make these type of comments when he's not the GM or the person in charge of building the roster. Both teams could potentially benefit from the deal, but there's a lot of uncertainty at this point for both franchises.
