He led his team as a freshaman to a tittle.. And beasly didnt.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (User01 @ May 15 2008, 03:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>reganomics, that was the best argument ive read for rose over beasley.

If we were to go third, who would you take? I'm guessing Mayo would be the consensus choice.</div>

I won't even go as far to say it's an argument as much as it is my own feeling on the two players. It's always easier to say a guard is a better leader than a big because they do run the show but that doesn't always mean they are. The attributes Rose has and the way he does it is what sells me on him over Beasley who very well could be a leader depending on where he goes. Personally I liken Beasley's attitude to an Amare, JO, and a lesser degree Bogut where they say all the right stuff as the best/better players on their teams but they aren't the ones who run their respective teams like say KGs and Duncans do. There's no question we need a good big man, especially one who can do some damage in both the scoring AND rebounding departments, but I just look at Rose's current level of play, his potential, and the direction the league is headed in and I can't justify passing him up even if Beasley is a double double candidate. That's just my gut feeling, it's neither right or wrong in a hypothetical situation like this.

I don't know enough about the rest of the players in the draft to make an informed decision if we picked third. I'd hope we'd package it to try and get Camby.

What about the surrounding talent? Do you think that had nothing to do with it?

Basically you're saying that Rose is a better leader because his team had more success? Wonderful logic.

Memphis had 4 future pros on there sqaud, and a HOF coach.

Beasley had Walker, but nothing else and a rookie coach.

He ran the show for memphis. He was their leader. An took them to the NCAA title game. And i agree that memphis was more talented than Kansas BUT that doesnt take away the fact that Rose made his teamates better, and took them to the promise land as a freshie. I admit he didnt get them a title but Memphis would not have done half of what they did last year without him. Thats just me but i respect your opinion.. im over it [IMG]

Memphis was a ranked team, the season before Rose arrival if I not mistaken.

If, somehow, someway the Nets end up with a top 2 pick tonight, who do you go for? Michael Beasley, who could become a McGrady-Pierce level superstar (IMO), or Derrick Rose, who could be the true replacement for Jason Kidd? If you pick Rose, what happens to Harris? And if Beasley, do you trade RJ? VC? Both? If we get a top 2 pick, do we go into rebuilding mode, trade the pick with hopes of becoming a contender (see: Ray Allen to Boston) or hope to add more players via free agency and hope Rose/Beasley can help us reach the next step?

EDIT: Just found the older thread on this subject, page 2...can a mod either merge the threads, or bump the other one, since this is obviously the subject of the day and demands discussion?

Erm... isnt Beasley a big Forward? Around 6 - 10? Therefore he'll be more like David West (20pts 10reb type of guy)

I didn't mean he'll be like T-Mac or Pierce in his style, just talentwise, how name recognizable he'll be, how many times he'll be an all-star, etc.

Well hopefully we have that problem starting tonite Beasley or Rose. But I would take the best player available.. if the first pick is Beasly then Rose and visa versa. And We can see how it works with Harris for a year... and if it doesnt we can always trade him since his value is so high right now.

I'd go with Rose, he's been described as JKidd with a shot. Plus I think he has a higher ceiling than Beasley. If Beasley were a Duncan-Oden type big, then Beasley, but I've seen his game and at best he'll be 15-10.

I love how these kids (Deron, Paul and Rose) get compared to "Jason Kidd with a shot" even though Kidd way light years away from all of them in the defense department.

Right now, the only thing that's left of Kidd is his passing. In his prime, he was an All-NBA defender capable of shutting down the perimeter.

Anyhow, seeing as we might not (sarcasm) win the lottery, this thread will come to a crashing end in about 4 hours :P
