UFC 86 We have the TUF coaches Forrest Griffin and Quiton Rampage Jackson fighting it out for the LHW title that Rampage currently holds. looks to be a great card with Josh Koscheck, Joe Stevenson, Tyson Griffin, Patrick Cote vs Ricardo Almedia. Not nearly as strong of a card as UFC 84 or 85, but that because the UFC is banking on ppl buying this card based on the main event. UFC 86: JULY 5, 2008 IN LAS VEGAS Main Card Bouts: 205 Lbs: Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson (29-6) vs. Forrest Griffin (15-4) 185 Lbs: Patrick 'The Predator' Cote (12-4) vs. Ricardo 'Cachorrao' Almeida (9-2) 155 Lbs: Joe 'Daddy' Stevenson (28-8) vs. Gleison Tibau (15-5) 170 Lbs: Josh 'Kos' Koscheck (10-2) vs. Chris 'Lights Out' Lytle (25-15) 155 Lbs: Tyson Griffin (11-1) vs. Marcus 'Maximus' Aurelio (16-5) Preliminary Bouts: 265 Lbs:Gabriel 'Napao' Gonzaga (8-3) vs. Justin 'The Insane One' McCully (8-3) 155 Lbs:Cole 'Magrino' Miller (13-3) vs. Jorge Gurgel (12-3) 155 Lbs:Melvin 'The Young Assassin' Guillard (22-7) vs. Dennis Siver (11-5) 155 Lbs:Justin Buchholz (7-2) vs. Corey Hill (2-0)
This is a very weak card, but sometimes cards like this turn out to be more exciting than the ones with big names.
there's still room for another fight or two, here's hoping it's a big one. there are a lot of fighters I'd like to see, but beyond Tyson Griffin vs. Marcus Aurelio and Patrick Cote vs. Ricardo Almeida no fights are that attractive.
Is this a good card? Outside of Jackson/Griffin...I don't know much of the fighters (I mean, I've heard of them)...but they don't have that average fan appeal to them.

Aurelio is coming on in the UFC, Tyson is the only person to beat WEC champ Urijah Faber ->Tyson Griffin vs. Marcus Aurelio Depends on which Cote shows up, it could be over quick like his loss to Lutter on the TUF finals or her could defend the take down and bang the hell outta Almeida.. guess which one I'm rooting for ->Patrick Cote vs. Ricardo Almeida The undercard is littered with TUF alums whohave potential but haven't shown too much yet, but it's not that great. 1 great fight, 2 potentially very good fights and 2 fights that should have obvious outcomes IMO... yeah not a bad not a great card. I think the UFC is really banking on Rampage vs Forrest really bringing in the viewers as they are the TUF coaches.
Looks like some big boys will be fighting on this card! Will be interesting to see which Gonzaga we get. The 4-0 in the UFC of the guy who lost to Werdum and Couture? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Justin McCully planned for UFC 86 Former top UFC heavyweight contender Gabriel Gonzaga (8-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) will likely return from the first back-to-back losses of his career when he meets Justin McCully (8-3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC 86. Sources close to both fighters tell MMAjunkie.com that the heavyweights recently accepted the bout and that it should be finalized shortly. UFC 86 takes place July 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and airs live on pay per view. Gonzaga, who began his UFC career with a 4-0 record, hasn't fought since a January second-round TKO loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 80. The televised bout was a rematch from their September 2003 meeting at Jungle Fight 1 in Brazil. Werdum TKO'd Gonzaga in that event, as well. Prior to the loss, Gonzaga fought at UFC 74 in August 2007 and suffered a third-round TKO to UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture. McCully, meanwhile, will return to action for the first time since his April 2007 unanimous-decision victory over Antoni Hardonk. McCully, part of Tito Ortiz's Team Punishment, had been a rumored opponent for Frank Mir, but the bout was apparently scrapped when the former champ was selected to coach opposite current champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on the upcoming eighth season of "The Ultimate Fighter."</div>
I would have preferred a Joe Stevenson vs Tyson Griffin fight here, mainly to give some structure to that lightweight class. We have seen with Huerta and Griffin that they are young and talented, but neither have had to fight many good fighters. So I was thinking a Huerta/Florian which we will see, and a Stevenson/Grifin fight would give some structure to the lightweight class. Because their number two fighter in the division isn't clear, with the way Penn just dominated Sherk for three rounds and then knocked him out, I think these fights would have helped to clear up that solid number 2 fighter in the UFC lightweight division. Stevenson vs Tibau could still be a decent fight, but I don't find it as compelling as what a Griffin/Stevenson fight would have been. Obviously Jackson/Forrest is going to be a big fight here, does anyone else think that Rampage Jackson just looks much bigger from a muscle standpoint than Forrest? I think Rampage wins this fight in the third round, with a TKO, but I am hoping to be wrong as I want a Forrest Griffin win here. Either way though, you get a good guy representing the division. One thing I would like to say, does anyone else think Keith Jardine got crapped on here? After beating Forrest, and then beating Chuck Liddell, even with the Houston Alexander loss, he should have had this title fight. I like Griffin better, but Jardine should have been fighting here. Now he won't get his shot after getting romped by Wanderlei.
fight card appears to be finalized.. looks like it's a 10 fight card. given that we now get another UFC event 2 weeks later.. it's much more acceptable 11 days until we see this card!! I'm starting to get excited about some of these fights. Griffin is kinda of forgotten about it seems but the dude has lost one to Frankie Edgar in a close fight and is the only person to beat urijah faber. Marcus Aurelio is no joke either. He submitted Takanori Gomi and lost a split decision rematch with him as well. He started off a bit rough in the UFC, but appears to be getting his rythm back and could be a surprise winner here. I'm hoping Cote can stuff almeida and get the win, but that's a tall task. Forrest vs Rampage is very intersting too. Rampage has his ups and downs and Forrest really opened my eyes with his domination of Shogun, a man who dominated Rampage in Pride. The under card is still Meh, but I like Cory 'this is my home, this is my zone!' Hill and Ben Saunders so I'd like to see their fights if there's time at the end of the night
It's been nice recently. I would love to have 2 UFC events every month (like 1 UFC ## and 1 Fight Night every month) Especially when The Ultimate Fighter season ends. When the Ultimate Fighter season is running then I can get by on less.
July is going to be HAWT. UFC 86 Spike Fight Night live and Free Affliction's STACKED card with Fedor vs Timmy Silvia, Ben Rothwell vs AA, Aleck Emelianenko vs my boy Paul Buentello, Babalu, Matt Lindland.. YOW Elite XC's CBS fight card Dream.5 the Lightweight grand prix finals! daaaamn what a month.
Weigh in results (mmaweekly): LAS VEGAS – The fighters for Saturday’s UFC 86 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center weighed in on Friday before several thousand fans, despite the American Independence Day holiday. The main event features Quinton Jackson defending his UFC light heavyweight championship against inaugural Ultimate Fighter winner Forrest Griffin. Both fighters were dead on at the 205-pound limit. Although there were no real fireworks during weigh-ins, Jackson locked Griffin’s eyes in an intense staredown, while Griffin just stood there with his ear-to-ear Forrest grin. Following the weigh-in, queried about the fight by Joe Rogan, Griffin would only remark, “I said everything I have to say… that’s it.” The champion was a little more talkative, telling Rogan, “I’m just ready to go get it on and defend this belt.” Jackson also had an added message to a throng of booing fans. “All you haters better get used to it, I’m going to be here for a long time.” Main Card Bouts: -Quinton Jackson (205) vs. Forrest Griffin (205) -Patrick Cote (185) vs. Ricardo Almeida (185) -Joe Stevenson (155) vs. Gleison Tibau (156) -Josh Koscheck (170) vs. Chris Lytle (170) -Tyson Griffin (155) vs. Marcus Aurelio (155) Preliminary Bouts: -Gabriel Gonzaga (249) vs. Justin McCully (236) -Cole Miller (155) vs. Jorge Gurgel (155) -Melvin Guillard (155) vs. Dennis Siver (155) -Justin Buchholz (155) vs. Corey Hill (155) *All weights in pounds.
Uh, I told myself I wasn't going to order this fight card, but I broke down an did. Can someone please convince me why it was a good idea to order it?
Often times you get to see the undercard fights at the end. Gabriel Gonzaga has lost some fights, but has power and a nice stand up game. Melvin Guillard returning to the UFC, and he has made some mistakes, but he packs a punch and could deliver a nice KO. On the main card, I think the 3 fights that will be the best are: 3. 155 Lbs: Joe 'Daddy' Stevenson (28-8) vs. Gleison Tibau (15-5) I think it should be an interesting fight, and Gleison might get bloodied up from Stevenson trying to redeem himself from losing to Penn. 2. Tyson Griffin in 2007 had 3 of the best fights that year. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Tyson Griffin had 3 fights in the UFC in 2007 which all made a list of 10 best of 2007 fights. He ranked #9 when he fought Thiago Tavares at UFC 76: Knockout, where he won by a unanimous decision. He suffered his first loss at UFC 67: All or Nothing to Frank Edgar where he lost a close unanimous decision, ranking #7 on the list. Tysons best fight of 2007 ranked #3 when he fought and won a very close split desision against Clay Guida at UFC 72: Victory.[1]</div> 1. Forrest vs. Rampage, well Rampage packs power, and Forrest has a lot of stamina and keeps pushing it in the later rounds. It should be an exciting fight. Fight that probably won't be super exciting: But Koshchek is a guy up there in contending. He is like a Tim Duncan (a star kind of guy, he just doesn't happen to be the most exciting). Lytle is like a Shane Battier guy (not a star, but works hard and can get it done) Chris Lytle vs. Josh Koshchek - in terms of their style they are pretty similar and pretty similar builds, although Koshchek gets the advantage here. Overall Lytle is a slightly and is a good wrestler but Koshchek is very good at wrestling. Yea, probably not a very exciting match, but I'll look forward to it. One problem is that Koshchek hasn't been very exciting his last couple of fights, his Diego fight he was very defensive and just throwing a jab. However since Lytle isn't the crazy aggressive guy Diego is, he probably will be more aggressive.
What a crappy decision. Almeida dominated round one and in the next two rounds nothing much happened. The judges should have just given the 3rd to Almeida so the right guy got the win.
