    BOYS, BARBER CLOSE
Posted by Mike Florio on May 20, 2008, 3:39 p.m.

On the same day that the Dallas Cowboys reached a long-term deal with cornerback Terence Newman, a league source tells us that the Cowboys are close to working out a long-term deal with running back Marion Barber.

Barber is a restricted free agent. He was tendered at the highest level, which would have given the Cowboys a first-round and third-round draft pick if another team had signed Barber to an offer sheet that the ‘Boys opted not to match. He received no offers, and has yet to sign his tender.

Performing well as the counter-punch to former starter Julius Jones, the Cowboys decided to let Jones walk away, focus on keeping Barber, and complementing him with former Arkansas tailback Felix Jones, one of the team’s first-round picks in last month’s draft.

He needs to be kept. I know people are worried about the money, his running style, etc.... but we need him. The offense is in another realm when he is in the game versus when Jones was. He also has 28 TDs the past two seasons; that's a lot of offense/scoring to replace.

Thank god. I was genuinely starting to think I was going to lose my favorite Cowboy.

The Cowboys and running back Marion Barber have come to terms on a seven-year, $45 million deal, with $16 million guaranteed, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. Barber will earn $21 million over first three years of the deal.
"I gotta credit the Cowboys, they do a great job of getting players signed," Rosenhaus said. "Representing Marion's been a pleasure, on and off the field, he's a champ."
Barber has been training at Perfect Competition in Fort Lauderdale this offseason, with fellow Rosenhaus clients Fred Taylor and Frank Gore. He'll report to OTAs tomorrow morning.</div>

    Yeahhhh!!!

God damn it's a great day to be a Cowboys fan

LOL, I started a new thread for it... Figured Barber's contract extension deserved to get its own thread too, since I did it with Newman. Its been a great day to be a Boys fan, that's for sure.... we locked up two integral parts in Newman and Barber.
