He originally committed to Mississippi State on February 20, 2008 before picking up an LSU offer 7 days later. He then switched his commitment to the Bayou Bengals on March 26. How much time he sees at LSU will depend on whether Russell Shepard stays at QB or moves to wide receiver. If Shepard stays at QB, Garrett may have to wait his turn just like Matt Flynn did behind JaMarcus Russell. Garrett is one of the more solidly built QB's in this class. He has a tremendous frame and good strength. He is cool, calm, anc collected in the pocket and does panic under pressure, which translates well to the college game. His footwork is good and he has a nice quick release and gets the ball where it needs to be with little wasted motion. He throws a very nice ball and has good arm strength. Not a great athlete and has trouble moving around outside the pocket, so he's definitely not a threat with his feet.</font></td> </tr> </table> </body> </html>
Top 10 NeMiss High School sports stories | Daily Journal <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>10. Garrett Calls An Audible Tupelo quarterback Chris Garrett, who will be a senior this fall, seemed a perfect fit at Mississippi State. He's a lifelong Bulldogs fan, his older brother attends MSU, and his father is the president of the alumni association's Lee County chapter. So it was no surprise when Garrett made a verbal commitment to MSU coach Sylvester Croom in October. Then in March, Garrett changed his mind, picking SEC West rival LSU instead. That drew the ire of MSU fans, but Garrett said the hardest decision he's ever made was the right one for him.</div>

His mechanics and footwork as always were excellent.</div>
No time to rest for top NeMiss preps | NeMiss Daily Journal <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>When Chris Garrett joined Tupelo's varsity football team as a freshman, he was introduced to something called "film study," which sounded a lot like more homework to the young quarterback. "We started watching film every day," Garrett said, "and I'd never heard of that before." Garrett, now a senior for the Golden Wave, received a typical introduction to high school varsity athletics. The difference between Garrett and some other prep athletes is, he doesn't do just the minimum. The LSU commit has embraced film study; he'll take film home with him for closer examination, and he falls asleep on the eve of a game with visions of third-and-10 completions dancing in his head. On Fridays in the fall, he's focused "all day long. Academics, that's not really the deal with me on Friday. I'm worried about the game." For the record, Garrett sported a 3.8 GPA in the fall. Garrett is fully committed, and when he arrives in Baton Rouge next year, he'll be as well-rounded an athlete as he can be - physically, mentally and emotionally. These days, that's a must.</div>
