I'm not sure what to put in the Chris Douglas Roberts thread, but I'm already starting to like him enough to try and start one. Check his quote out, I love it! : <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Are there any NBA teams or players in particular that you guys watch and emulate? Well I compare us to the playoff Warriors. They play similar to us. The Warriors team that almost swept the Mavs last season. Because both Coaches just let the players play their games. Plus my favorite player is Stephen Jackson.</div> http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Chris-...as-Roberts-506/ Damn, see if there's a job for this guy over here! Maybe we can keep run and gun alive for a little while and add a big man after Don Nelson is gone. The Don Nelson system is probably the perfect fit for a guy like CDR who other teams may avoid for not being the classic style swingman (Vince Carter/Kobe Bryant) or shooting guard(Ray Allen). If there was a way to convert Harrington into CDR, I would want that because I believe having a strong team means having a strong shooting guard in addition to having a strong point guard and at least one great PF/C. In priority it should be #1: PF/C #2: PG #3: SG. Anyone disagree? CDR could be some protection against Marco Belinelli being a possible flop and CDR has comparable all-star upside. With Bel, we don't know if he's going to just bomb 3's and do nothing else and I think CDR could cover more of what is unknown about Belinelli's inside game. If we got one of the strongest college shooting guards in the nation right now (albeit unorthodox style and not really a shooter like Shan Foster or JJ Reddick), we might end up getting this year's Josh Howard. The nba game might even be a stronger fit than in college. CDR seems to have strong defense and strong offense going to the basket with some 3 point shooting capability. What stands out is his %'s, body control, and demeanor on the floor. He's very efficient and he seems like a guy that doesn't need to be managed. He's already got it. If he can't get all the way to the rim at the nba level, I think his natural body strength and his coordination will allow him to finish in traffic. He is a clever player and his slashing game could be dominant at the next level. You just never know. It also makes some sense to me since any 6'10-7 footer we draft will probably be relegated to non-offensive roles or as practice dummies under Don Nelson. So maybe, if we could, convert Harrington into the highest pick we can and draft a big man and a shooting guard. I don't mind drafting Budinger as secondary choice to CDR, but I think it is in our best interests to draft a guy who can prove himself defensively and create with the ball and deliver in crunch time. CDR could be that guy. Then this lineup would definitely be exciting: pg: Baron Davis / Marco Belinelli (we'll see if Marco can run point on offense a la Brent Barry/Mike Miller/Joe Johnson) sg: Monta Ellis / Chris Douglas Roberts (we'll have a small shooting guard and a tall shooting guard who can attack the basket) sf: Stephen Jackson / (FA Barnes or BAP in FA) pf: Brandan Wright / (Darrell Arthur?) c: Andris Biedrins / (Kosta Koufous?) (Kosta Perovic) That lineup looks good to me because I think CDR could be a better difference maker coming from the bench than Pietrus at SG. I think we need a better backup point guard, but this would give Belinelli more playing time to develop his game and he wouldn't necessarily be the primary ballhandler because Baron or Monta could act as primary ballhandler. I'm down with Jackson/Barnes SF duo. If there's somebody better than Barnes then I hope it is another guy that replicate assist/rebound/defense production. The biggest hole in our team is probably power forward, but we took a chance on Brandan Wright and now we have to follow through. I don't think he'll be foul prone, but Darrell Arthur as his backup might. I think it's cheaper if we just re-sign Austin Croshere and maybe get one of them beefier power forwards like Udonis Haslem or a Reggie Evans. But if we really want to develop Brandan Wright seriously, I think we need a former all-star. Maybe if we got Shareef Abdur Rahim on the cheap or if we got Antonio McDyess. Then we keep Biedrins and draft somebody like Kosta Kofous who might be the stop-gap center we need for halfcourt play. I'm not saying he's super awesome, but he has the potential to be very productive as far as any center we're going to get at #14. I mean he's got the least chance of being a bust in my mind. If we draft DeAndre Jordan or Javale McGee, I'm pretty convinced the level that they played in college will not be enough to cut a 2nd rotation. Maybe Arthur could hack it, depending on what he really weighs for a PF, but what happens if he's more foul prone than Darko Milcic or Greg Oden combined? Kosta Kofous plays at a high enough level to believe he could something some day and while his strength isn't defense, he might be adequate in that department. I don't know how good of an offensive player inside he is, but he's got some very impressive moves and he still produced. So first pick we draft a big Second pick we draft a small or BAP if CDR isn't there. Thoughts? I really want CDR, though, and hopefully coach and mullin are thinking the same thing. Great character and he even likes the same non-allstar player that I do.
I've been hearing a lot about CDR so will have to keep tabs on he's doing. Also, I like Arthur at the power spot, but doubt he'll be there when the Warriors pick at #14. How about Brandon Rush? I like Rush and his size. But can Marco play PG? It seemed like an after thought last year around this time.
I hear what you're saying about big men and Nelson and I share the view that drafting another one (at least a traditional type) is probably a waste of a draft pick and a roster spot until Nelson is done here. CDR is definitely intriguing but the low 70%-ish FT shooting worries me, the last thing the Warriors need is another poor freethrow shooter. With how much this dude handles the ball and at his size, his % needs to be better there. Also the lack of assists, although there could be a number of reasons for that. I like the consistent 54% FG. I guess the bottom line is I'd rather see minutes taken away from someone other than Monta. Yes, to an extent he could compliment him and spell him to keep fresh, but the Warriors have so many more pressing needs than a SG right now.

Wow the draft is in only one week! Has the nba finals always been so close to the NBA draft. I'd have to say no from my memory, but my memory has a history of being wrong.

i still like brandon rush better because he can play both sides of the ball, excels on defense and would be less prone to turning the ball over than cdr. rush is a lot better shooter and will excel in catch and shoot and moving without the ball while cdr is the better ball handler and creator. i think rush will be a better fit with baron holding the ball a lot.
If Baron is gone or injured a la Terrell Brandon, I'd want a guy who can crate offense on his own and is an excellent ball handler. One thing that CDR understands is how to create separation and how to move with the ball. So in my mind he's got a similar ability like Monta Ellis in knowing how to get shots off and when a defender is playing too closely. Defensively, CDR should be okay, considering he was on one of the better defensive teams in the NCAA tournament. His shot %'s are excellent, but his free throw %'s remain consistent with those of the other players on the Warrior roster. Not even a sharpshooter like Marco goes above 75%. He's also pretty quick, functionally strong, well coordinated, and he's got some qualities that you'd want in a rookie player such as mental maturity. Having a 6'7 shooting guard is an asset if we want to keep playing our 6'8 guard/small forward. Rush is a good pick though, I just like CDR better. I think he's become extremely underrated much like Josh Howard of the Mavericks.
