Is Robbie Lawler usually an overly cautious fighter?

He took a lot of unnecessary punishment by not finishing off a helpless Smith at the end of the first round.

It wound up costing him the win, too.

My view is it's Thompson's own fucking fault he lost. I can remember seeing that thing on the big screen in the Prudential Center and thinking to myself that there's a very good chance that thing could bust open and he could lose.

Now you see why I love Gina Carano!

Her personality is kind of annoying and the fact that she wasn't in shape really bugs me, but oh man she is the goods in the ring.

You can't fake MMA. Ask Kimbo. Either you know what you are doing or you don't. Gina loves to fight, worked hard at it and learned the right way, and that's why she is good enough to beat a pretty dangerous opponent without even having a proper training camp.

She's probably going to lose a few (just like every other MMA fighter) when she moves up in class, but she's an exciting fighter.

I haven't seen him as cautious as he looked tonight. I think he was just winded and wasn't able to capitalize on Smith's damage.

All the time. They show a lot of replays though.

Jeez. It was the first round and Smith was falling down on his own. Lawler was nodding his head and dancing around.

I just saw him tonight, but Smith seems like the type of guy you want to get out of there as soon as possible. He's relentless.

Did they show the Jon Murphy/Brett Rogers fight on TV? I think it would have been the first fight.

Rogers went all out for his entrance. Busta Rhymes and Big Black from Rob and Big.

I saw Frank Shamrock strike a downed Renzo Gracie with illegal elbows and get disqualified. Renzo had to go to the hospial.

Frank was a complete asshole about it. He wouldn't apologize and acted like a real jerk.

I also read his comments about his brother and steroids, which seemed a little unnecessary to me.

Then tonight I listened to his commentary and he seemed like an intelligent and even-tempered guy. He was actually very good. He was informative, no nonsense, and not controversial at all. He seemed really nice.

So what the hell was the deal? Was he just selling fights?

    Yeah, that was on.

I had flashbacks to Cory Spinks and Nelly when Spinks got knocked out by Zab Judah, but this worked out much better than that did.

I am a total MMA noob, I thought Kimbo looked somewhat decent on the ground UNTIL he gassed.

I had a hard time staying awake watching this show. They should have got rid of all the gimmick hype crap and got right into the fights. It seemed like the show tried to grab an aspect of WWE, The Contender, and TUF.

I also found the camera work annoying and amateur. In the first fight they never got a clear reverse angle shot of the knock out punch. From the angles they showed it didn't look like a clean strike and the Man of Faith displayed a glass chin.

In the Kimbo fight they kept switching to the camera behind the referee when Kimbo was pinned against the cage taking a lot of elbows.

The best fight of the night was actually the women's fight.

The Lawler fight was also great until they ended it prematurely. Not to be sexist, but I don't think a female doctor should be allowed to determine if a guy can continue in a fight. I don't think they can relate to a guy's tolerance of pain and the competitive nature to continue to finish the fight. Her motherly instinct to protect got the best of her and she made the decision to end the fight.

They didn't even give Smith his 5 minutes to recover after getting poked in the eye.

Busta Rhymes? Big Black? That was some garbage WWE crap right there.

Kimbo Slice fight was entertaining and I thought it was the right call to stop the fight. The guy took 4 clean power shots to the head and couldn't defend himself. If the ref doesn't jump in there Kimbo would have came right in and did serious damage to the Colossus.

I thought Kimbo was going to pass out during his post game interview, he clearly did not think the fight would go that long and didn't have the stamina. Nice to see him gut out a tough win though.

Im glad that the NY Pussie lost. I cant stand that prick.

The Kimbo fight something was wrong, In the first I swore I saw him tapping when the guy was choking him, then he wasnt defending himself at the end of the 2nd, and the ref stoped it to fast. The guy allways got rocked, but recoverd all the time in the fight, and why didnt the guy drain the blood and puss from his ear before the fight?

I would make Gina my baby's momma

When I saw Frank, I was woundering how his arm was...LOL [IMG]

Kimbo wasn't tapping, he was giving the "thumbs up" so the ref would know he wasn't getting choked.

I think the ref could see that anyway, but Kimbo's new.

Hmmm just watched the Kimbo fight. Just a few thoughts, probably the same as everyone elses. First one is that how come the fight wasnt stopped when Kimbo was getting pounded on at the end of the second round. Also do referees usually stand up two opponents when one has side control and is clearly in a dominant position? I think this fight was the first time ive seen it happen. I know Kimbo is still a rookie mma fighter but I don't like his chances of ever becoming a top tier HW fighter.

They can stand up fighters, and do. I don't know of any fixed rule of when to stand them up, but if the person on top is just trying to drag on the fight and just survive then they tend to stand it up not much later.

They are less likely to do it if the person on top is active, switching positions, and doing damage.

I haven't seen the particular clip, so I have no idea what the situation looked like.

I don't know squat about MMA, but I've been watching for a little while and find it entertaining. The thing that stood out the most to me was how disgusting Thompson's ear was. The other fight shouldn't have been stopped, though (the eye poking incident).

I don't understand why CBS only showed two fights that lasted a total of two minutes combined in the entire first hour. Why not just put on a fight from the undercard or something?

    This Faber/Pulver fight is amazing.

I know Pulver is a vet, but this is the first time I've seen him. He is eating shots and smiling, gotta love that.

Faber is unbelievably quick and my god..he throws bombs.
