    Pitching matchup
    TOR: RHP A.J. Burnett (5-4, 4.69 ERA)
Burnett is 1-1 with a 3.91 ERA in four career starts against the Athletics. In his last outing, Burnett carried a one-hit shutout into the fifth inning against the Angels before running into some trouble in the sixth. He gave up three earned runs on six hits overall en route to his fifth victory of the season. With the win, the 31-year-old improved his record in May to 3-2 with a 3.48 ERA.

OAK: LHP Greg Smith (2-4, 3.18 ERA)
Smith, a 24-year-old rookie, bounced back from his worst start of the season with an impressive outing against Tampa Bay. Smith allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out four over seven innings of work, but took the loss due to a lack of offensive support from his teammates. Smith has now gone five straight starts without recording a victory.
