Word on the Street: Love to Minnesota? by: Jonathan Givony - President May 27, 2008 McHale in Love with Kevin Love? Numerous sources with varying ties to Minnesota confirmed to DraftExpress over the past few days that Timberwolves GM Kevin McHale has locked in on UCLA freshman Kevin Love as possibly his favorite prospect in this draft. McHale reportedly likes the skill-level and all-around feel for the game that Love brings to the table, as well as his winning mentality, and sees him as an excellent potential compliment to Al Jefferson in Minnesota’s front-court. Picking 3rd in this draft, many would consider it a reach to take Love, although numerous advanced statistical formulas have identified him as being the 2nd most productive player in this draft, behind Michael Beasley. There is already some talk that Minnesota will look to make a trade with Memphis GM Chris Wallace, who would then have the option of fortifying his front-court by drafting Brook Lopez at #3, or swinging for the fences and taking O.J. Mayo. Memphis could offer Minnesota the young prospect of their choice in Kyle Lowry, Hakim Warrick or Javaris Crittenton to help facilitate the deal. Wallace only has two more years left on his contract and needs to make as big a splash as possible in this draft to jump-start Memphis’ rebuilding process, meaning he could be leaning more towards taking Mayo, especially if his team is drafting 5th. link: http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Word-o...innesota--2898/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I pray to Iesha that this is just a smoke screen...I really dont want us to pass on Mayo to get Love. I like Love, but not enough to pass on about three other players I would get before him (not counting the big two). If they were to trade the pick I do like the idea of dealing with Memphis and getting Lowry and the Memphis pick in return...I kind like it even if we wanted Mayo...memphis gets Lopez, Seattle (OKC) gets Bayless and we still get Mayo and Lowry in the trade....not bad, But Love?!? This actually doesn't surprise me since it's McHale though.....thoughts? Anyone? please!!!!

I'm all for Minnesota getting Mayo. I'm hoping Miami doesn't decide to surprise and take Mayo. Although Beasley would be a steal at #3
If your looking for a big man, why the hell would you take Love over Lopez. Either way his favorite prospect last year was Spencer hawks, and he took brewer last year ahead of him. He could also be trying to raise Love's stock, so someone might be willing to give up alot to move up and get him.
yeah, that's the way I see it. Although a wanted Minnesota to take Noah at #7 last year. I think he's targeting Mayo, since they've been awful quiet in regards to him lately. And I'm really hoping they stay clear of Brook Lopez with the #3 and try to trade into an additional mid/late round pick and target his brother Robin. He would compliment Big Al since he rebounds and blocks better...not to mention he's more athletic. Besides with the pick up of Mayo at #3 he won't be expected to score inside so he can concentrate on defense and slowly learn offense
