Why cant there a be a rumor that Brian Hill is leaving too? As a matter of fact, did they replace anyone in Indiana? Is there still a possibility that Frank can leave too?
Outside of Thate and Walsh, who is our trainer, I generally dislike the rest of Frank's staff. Let him leave. And lets hope at least Tom Barisse goes with him. Maybe even Brian Hill.
Our assistants are jokes but I will say the only one who seems to be doing anything is Cartwright. I think the only consistent player development has been from our bigs with Nenad, Boone, and to a degree Sean (who wasn't even supposed to crack the rotation this season, and yes I will continue to harp on that fact). Maybe their games still have rounding out to do but you also have to factor in the numerous injuries and the annual auditions/additions of end of the road veteran bigmen screwing up bench rotations as well. Even with those bumps in the road Nenad and Josh have made nice strides and once Sean gets to soak up the playbook there is a good chance he'll be in the same boat. Cartwright's name, even despite his rings, may not get the recognition a guy like Ewing does but as an assistant I would take him over Pat any day of the week.

Bill Cartwright is a fantastic big man coach. He took Nenad from nothing and turned him into a serviceable big man. Nenad would've made it big had not the ACL injury. Boone went from a waste of talent in college to a pretty good player for a mid-level draft pick. Might want to rethink that one there, guy.
He had Tyson Chandler looking like a future superstar. He couldn't really get anything out of Curry, but that was because Curry was fat.

It remains to be seen what Cartwright can really do, IMO. Tyson Chandler really did start looking like an NBA center when Cartwright was the coach, and Eddy Curry developed into the team's leading scorer the season Cartwright was fired. All that was without really getting more than 1 or 2 summer camps or for the team to get into what the triangle is all about (it takes multiple seasons for a team to really play it right). Didn't follow much of what he did in NJ, but the young bigs there did seem to develop, perhaps beyond expectations. Not sure how much freedom he was given to coach as he saw fit there, either.
