<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Roy Nelson was informed by IFL President and CEO Jay Larkin earlier this morning that casual talks have taken place between his organization and EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw regarding an inter-promotional fight between IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson and Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson.

According to Larkin, formal talks about a Nelson vs. Slice fight have yet to take place but discussions could intensify Monday morning, depending on the outcome of Slice’s heavyweight bout during EliteXC’s debut on CBS this Saturday night.

“If Kimbo wins, we’ll make that match (Nelson vs. Slice) without hesitation,” Larkin said during an exclusive interview with Five Ounces of Pain. “We”ll do in on an IFL card or an Elite card — we don’t care. Promotions working together is the only way for this business to grow.”

Both Larkin and Shaw have worked together for over 20 years and the two were involved with numerous boxing co-promotions while Larkin was the head of SHOWTIME Sports. In fact, both Larkin and Shaw are responsible for the creation one of SHOWTIME’s boxing staples, “ShoBox.”

Nelson recently defeated Brad Imes via TKO in the first round at the IFL’s most recent event in Connecticut on May 16.

Nelson is 13-2 in his MMA career with victories over some of the best heavyweight competition in the IFL, including Fabiano Scherner, Antoine Jaoude, and Bryan Vetell. One of his only losses came against former IFL heavyweight Ben Rothwell in a fight that some believe Nelson won. He and Slice also have something in common, and that’s a victory over Bo Cantrell.

In addition to Cantrell, Slice also holds a first round knockout over Tank Abbott and finished former boxing champion Ray Mercer in the first round of an MMA exhibition</div>

now roy doesn't look like much of a fighter

But he's 13-2 with both losses be decisions, so he would be a logical step up in competition for Kimbo.
Kudos to Elite XC if they are willing to have Kimbo face someone with winning record in the last 3 years.

This kinda stinks, becouse I drafted both of them.

But, I would enjoy the fight.

I don't think it stinks, it shows you have guile to be a potential MMA promoter [IMG]

It's actually smart to draft fighters in organizations with less talent like EliteXC, because Kimbo gets set up against garbage opponents that he can't lose.

Its a good path for Kimbo to take. Nelson is more of a winner, but not somebody that is too much for Slice to handle, in my estimation. EliteXC is really going to bring Kimbo along slowly. I think they'll put on a Kimbo/Ken Shamrock fight first, though.

The next event hasn't been booked but expect it to be in three to four months on Saturday Night Fights on CBS (9pm).

If its a legit fight, I don't think Kimbo can even beat Ken Shamrock. He is an attraction. He should fight Butterbean or Mike Tyson or a bear.

IM SHAMrock is done, he's a dinosaur that never evolved his game one bit. Any decent MMA fighter would destroy him nowadays and in fact they have.
SHAMrock has 3 wins since 1996.. that's all I have to say about him.

Kimbo is not a top 20 HW, but he's still developing and could be a decent fighter. In his fight with James Thompson he was giving 20+ lbs in size. If he faced SHAMrock he'd be the bigger guy and he'd steamroll him.
