Just kidding with the fake quote, but this is indeed a real story. I'm trying to find some sources for this story but that is what MSNBC is reporting. A good move to try and bury this story over the weekend.
Why? I think it makes him look like he isn't loyal to his friends, and it's clearly politically motivated anyway.

At least he is being honest.
It was a good move, the longer he would be affiliated with them, the more stuff for his opponents to use.
