This list, drawn from several sources, but mostly basketball-reference.com, catalogues what players have actually been paid in their careers, not how much they are owed...although the two top, Shaquille O'Neal and Kevin Garnett, could reach $300 million before their careers are done. Kidd ranks #4 and if he can get Cuban to give him that two year extension on top of the $21.4 million owed next year, he could surpass Chris Webber and move into #3.

For the record, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made $20.2 million for his career and Michael Jordan made $93.4 million. You may now play "which doesnt belong and why?" It's easy.

Only 3 of the top 10 has ever won a title. And Alonzo did it well past his prime...

Although, to be honest, quite a few of those guys who haven't won titles may have deserved the money, anyways.

Well, two more may make this year.

18 of the 25 have been to the Finals. 8 of the 25 have won it...and Allen and Garnett could make it 10.

3 of the 25 have never been out of the first round: McGrady, Hill and Marbury.

Regarding Mutombo, out of that $113 million, how much did the Nets pay?

I would consider that superstar players play the first 3-4 years of their careers at rookie wages, so they deserve (IMO) to be well paid later on in their careers for what they did as younger guys.

About $45 million...$15 million in salary for the one year he played and the $30 million buyout.

I'm counting 19 players in the NBA Finals, with McGrady, Hill, Webber, Marbury, Howard, and Jermaine O'Neal not getting there. Who am I missing?

If Jordan didn't decide to quit and play baseball he would be higher up the list.

^^ He only missed 1 year, and part of the lockout season. He wouldn't be much higher.

Honestly I'm not that surprised. Most of these players signed their deals before the modern salary cap or they've played for an extremely long amount of time.

I'm surprized that Kevin Garnett (210 mill) has made 90 mill more than Duncan (122 mill)

Near the end with the Bulls his annual salary was in the $30mm range. Just one more season like that would've vaulted him well past Pippen and near the top 10.
