How does Harris compare to the PG's in this draft?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed already but here goes...

    The PG's are:

    Derrick Rose
    OJ Mayo
    Jerryd Bayless
    D.J. Augustin
    Russell Westbrook

Who would you trade Harris for on this list? And who could be a starting caliber PG for the Nets like Harris?

I'm thinking everyone would pick Rose over Harris.

But it would probably get more interesting and close to call with Mayo and Bayless?

I think Mayo is interesting. If the Nets were to use Harris in a trade to get a big like Brand and then trade up using the 10th pick and whatever else to get Mayo, then I think Mayo's NBA ready game with his shooting ability could be a good fit playing beside a big like Brand and Carter.

Another way to go would be to use Harris in a trade for Brand and then use the 10th pick to draft a PG. Would D.J. Augustin be worth taking at 10 and expect him to be a starting caliber PG? Would he adequately fit the role? What about Westbrook?

Maybe Rose... but none really, I would like to see what happens next season before trading him.

Kiki Vandeweghe has said publicly the Nets are building around Harris and his game. He has a verrry reasonable contract at 5 years and $46 million, which takes him through age 29.

It should be quite obvious that the Nets have no intention of trading a player who they are going to build around. They're also not going to trade Vince Carter. They may claim no one is untouchable, but that is just talk.

Honestly I see very few differences between Harris' game and Rose's.

It was hypothetical regarding what people would want to do. Let's talk... it's quiet enough around here over the offseaon.

I would only trade him for Rose, which isn't happening. And as much as I would love to have Brand I don't think he is going anywhere. Let alone to a team with a rookie PG not named Rose.

The only one I would want more than Harris is Rose (I'm guessing that's a given). I'm not a Mayo fan, he seems like he will always have some sort of baggage, and I think it's best this team not have that problem for a little while. I don't think Bayless will ever be better than Harris is now, and I could still see Harris improving somewhat.

Harris is not untouchable. They may not look to trade him, but if they get blown away, he’s gone.

I do. Rose is a better athlete and a much, much better playmaker.

I dont want to slight Harris, I think he's good. But I think Rose is better and in 2 years, he will be among the elite PG's of Chris Paul and Deron Williams. I think Harris will be in that 2nd tier group. I'd like to be wrong about that, but I just dont see Harris among those elite PG's.

Even if they have the same game, Rose is 4.5 years younger. That matters.

I just think back to how good we thought Marcus was going to be. I wouldn't trade Harris who has produced in this league for potential no matter how great they say they will be.

I'd rather Mayo, maybe Rose or Bayless.

I'm hoping that Devin Harris takes on the role of a playmaker in the upcoming season rather than the new generation scoring guard.

I wouldn't trade Harris for Rose. I wouldn't trade a proven NBA player for one who will be adjusting for at least two years.

Rose took Memphis to the NCAA Final Four and lost. Harris took Dallas to the NBA Finals and lost.

Tell me which one is the most significant accomplishment.

I wouldn't trade Harris for one of them, either. Harris is no shlub; he was a pretty high draft pick also, and has had a few years to improve at least some portions of his game. You all just like the young, unproven guy simply because he represents untapped potential. Harris has proven that he can be very successful at this level.

I'll give Rose one season before he eclipses Harris. I believe he is that good.

And I say Rose's accomplishment is slightly more significant. Only because Harris did not "take" Dallas to the Finals. He just happened to be a part of that Mavs finals team. Jason Terry & Dirk took that team to the finals. Not Harris. Rose single handedly took Memphis to the NCAA finals.

I dont want to sound like a Harris-hater, I'm not. I just don't see him as one of the elite PG's. I truly believe he's about as good as he is now. He'll be a 17/6 guy, which is not bad at all. I just want to see an improvement on his playmaking skills. He isn't in that elite level class of Paul/Deron, nor do I think he ever will be. Hey, I'd love to be wrong about that though.

You saved me a whole lot of typing. I 100% agree on every point. Depending on just how free the reigns are next season we could see better than 17 and 6 but those are some real safe and probable numbers.

Other than Rose I wouldn't take anybody else on that list over Harris. Harris is a good PG and being proven easily ranks him above a pretty weak PG class IMO. While I truly do believe Harris being on that Mavs team gave them a dimension that was a major factor in getting Dallas to the finals, I wouldn't say he led them either. He played a very Ginobli-esque x-factor role that whole postseason but he wasn't the man.

Rose is a stud and any comparison where Harris wins is straight up homerism and will be looked at as laughable much like the Marcus/Deron Williams threads from a season and a half ago. Do not get me wrong, I am not mad in the slightest that Devin is out PG but like everyones already said, Rose is younger, bigger, just as athletic and quick, and has a much bigger room for improvement in his game.

But no matter how good the prospect, there is always some amount of risk before he can prove that he can succeed at the NBA level. NBA draft history is littered with "can't miss" top-five picks who did, in fact, miss. You could be correct that Rose will end up the superior player within a fwe years, but that has to be weighed against the risk of total failure. The fact that Devin Harris is still developing himself--and was a top-five pick to boot--has to be weighed as well.

Just for example, Mike Dunleavy and Adam Morrison were #3 picks!

Rose didn't single handedly take Memphis to the Championship Game. Everyone was a big part of that. How about Chris Douglas-Roberts who averaged 18 on 54% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc. Those are fantastic stats for a guard. What about Dorsey and Dozier who held down the paint on defense. Rose was no doubt a great contributor on the team, but Memphis was much more than a one-man show.

They were considered "can't miss" prospects too.
