<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><div align="center">Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp has been suspended for four games and fined an undisclosed amount for his part in a bench-clearing brawl in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.

In announcing the penalties today, Bob Watson, Major League Baseball's vice president for on-field operations, blamed Kemp for inciting the fight when he shoved Colorado catcher Yorvit Torrealba. Torrealba, who responded by shoving Kemp in the throat, was suspended three games and also fined.Unless appealed, Kemp's suspension is scheduled to begin tonight when the Dodgers play host to the Chicago Cubs, the team with the best record in baseball. The Rockies are off today, meaning Torrealba's suspension, unless appealed, would start Friday.

Kemp said frustration over the Dodgers' and Rockies' recent losing streaks probably had something to do with the incident but took full responsibility for his actions.

"It was just out of frustration," he said Tuesday. "It was really stupid. It was not a good decision on my part. But it happened and you've got to deal with whatever it is that comes after that."

The fight began after Kemp struck out on a pitch in the dirt to end the eighth inning. Since Torrealba did not catch the pitch, he had to corral the loose ball and tag Kemp to complete the out. But when he went after the ball Kemp got in his way. Torrealba bumped him hard and the two players' feet tangled. When Kemp appeared to take exception to Torrealba's actions, the two exchanged shoves before the Dodger outfielder wrapped the Colorado catcher in a bear hug and wrestled him to the turf.

Kemp's .310 average is tied with Russell Martin for the best on the Dodgers. Kemp is also tied for the team lead with 32 runs batted in. If he decides to serve his suspension immediately, Dodgers Manager Joe Torre has suggested that left fielder Juan Pierre would likely move to center to take his place. The Dodgers are already missing their regular center fielder, Andruw Jones, who is out until the All-Star break after undergoing minor knee surgery.</div></div>
