QUOTE

The Sonics are reportedly thinking about trading the fourth overall pick in this month's NBA Draft, according to The Seattle Times.

The team worked out Kevin Love, Kostas Koufos, J.J. Hickson, and Nathan Jawai. They also plan to bring in Roy Hibbert, Russell Westbrook, Shaun Pruitt, and George Hill.

Rumors are swirling that Seattle could trade back down into the lottery and possibly take Love a little later on.

    Via The Seattle Times

Hm. Maybe if they could pull of a good trade...I wouldn't mind this so much. I'm not so high on Kevin Love, but with the arsenal of poor offensive big men they have, someone like Love might be able to help him out. Maybe.

It'd be nice to get 2 first rounders from trading the 4th pick, with possibly being able to move up that 24th pick...hm. I'd like to know what their thoughts are on this one...

The thing is, with Love's recent impressive showings athletically in Orlando, his stock is at an all-time high. If Memphis keeps the #5 pick, you've got to think they'll go with him, especially considering that players like Bayless (and supposedly Lopez and Mayo) refuse to workout for the Grizzlies. So with that in mind, the Sonics would probably have to hold onto their pick if Love was their target.

Or...they could be crafty, and try to get both of Memphis's picks for the 4th. If that's even possible.

I could see that happening. If it looks like it's Love or nothing for Memphis, then what other choice do they have other than trading down or securing Love? Besides, given their financial situation, I can see them wanting to dump their late first round pick too.

I would give them Jackson's expiring contract and Houston's #26 for Earl Watson and their 4th pick.

    They would want Brooks.

They'd hang up the phone before they try to negotiate with Brooks. Terrible trade.

Btw, I can't see Houston trading away Jackson. He's one of Adelman's guys.

All I was thinking about when I posted that was Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol.

If Battier was thrown in for Wilcox, they would start negotiating.

The Sonics are just gonna waste their lottery pick again.

Oh yeah, Jackson is an expiring contract. That's about it. If he is still in the 9 man rotation next year, don't expect the Rockets to do any damage.

Knowing Sam Presti he is probably looking to trade down to get a serviceable veteran big and draft either Love or Westbrook.

We are either going big or small. The last draft cemented the status of our wings.

I wouldn't mind getting Kevin Love if it meant that we were able to bring in a point guard that was a capable starter in this league. Not many of those are on the market so I imagine that we are going to have to get them in the draft. Jamaal Tinsley would be ideal if this ownership group wasn't so fearful of his misteps. At this point we could probably get him for a second round pick and an expiring contract (Donyell Marshall). I would like to think it could be worth the risk.

    How about these trade scenarios

    Seattle trades:

Earl Watson, Donyell Marshall, and the 46th pick in the draft

    Cleveland trades:

2009 1st round pick and Eric Snow

    Seattle trades:

Luke Ridnour, Adrian Griffin, and the 50th pick in the draft

    Indiana trades:

    Jamaal Tinsley, Ike Diogu

    Seattle trades:

#4 pick, and their trade exception

    Detroit trades:

Amir Johnson, Arron Affalo, 2009 first round pick

    Projected 2008-2009 Sonics lineup

    Jamaal Tinsley
    Kevin Durant
    Jeff Green
    Chris Wilcox
    Amir Johnson

    Mario Chalmers
    Eric Snow
    Arron Affalo
    Damien Wilkins
    Nick Collison
    Ike Diogu
    Johan Petro
    Roy Hibbert
    Mo' Sene

Does this team look like a contender? Absolutely not. But the team is in a position to have 4 first round picks in 2009 and a tremendous amount of cap room when players like Eric Snow, Chris Wilcox, Johan Petro, and potentially Damien Wilkins/Mo' Sene/Ike Diogu come off of the books.

In 2009 this team would have a seasoned Durant and Green to go along with a developed Amir Johnson and hopefully an effective Roy Hibbert.

If they can get anything from Tinsley they would have a point guard capable of getting these players high percentage shots.

Our payroll would be roughly $52 million -- which would put us as the lowest payroll in the league. Something that Clay and company would love. They could even buy out Eric Snow's contract to help reduce the payroll.

Seems like a win, win. The team gets better defensively, they get younger, they save money, and they add a ton of draft picks to an already young and up and coming team.

    Thoughts?

My thoughts are I knew you were going to have mentioned Tinsley before even opening the thread.

I wouldn't be against trading the pick. The only guy I'd want is Mayo and Minnesota are idiots if they pass on him. I have my doubts on Bayless and anyone else at four is probably a reach. Would prefer a pick in the early teens to be honest, and a kid like Augustine.

Augustin would be great [IMG] ...perhaps the Sonics should work on getting a pick anywhere from 7 to 14, and another pick somewhere in the draft. Augustin plus someone like Westbrook or maybe even Chalmers later on - a point guard that's not so iffy on defense. And then get rid of Ridtson.

What do you think about those proposed trades? At this point I'd trade Ridnour for Ike Diogu straight up. Taking on Tinsley would be a huge risk but what available point guard could we possibly get that is more talented when healthy (key word when).

His stock is at an all time low and I think that we could really reap the benefit of buying low. Hell at this point I would even want Flip back just so I can have a reason to root for this franchise. Good times have been few and far between.

I wouldn't be against Tinsley at all, but I don't think it's realistic - the team is either moving to Oklahoma City, or being forced to play out two seasons in Seattle. if it's the former then Presti wil be looking to create an attractive image, and if it's the latter there will be no desire to establish a winning team whatsoever. Tinsley fits neither. FWIW I think he's one of the highest risk/reward players in the league for any team to acquire.

I like Amir Johnson too, but that is too much to give up.

I don't like the idea of getting Tinsley. I think it'd be better to pick up a young player in the draft to play at PG...and then trade away either Luke or Earl, whichever one wouldn't work out as backup.

Although, I wouldn't mind Flip - that'd be pretty cool to have him back.

QUOTE

Seattle is also reportedly trying hard to move up to #2, and is dangling Chris Wilcox as bait (in exchange for the cumbersome contract of Mark Blount). The Supersonics would also take Beasley there. This is all assuming that O.J. Mayo doesn’t go third to Minnesota, which is not something teams should take for granted just yet based off what we know so far.

Michael Beasley is a beast, but c'mon now Sonics. Are we really trying to be the Hawks? I don't understand that, but Beasley's beast status makes it alright.
