Spanish guard Rudy Fernandez has announced that he is leaving his European team to join the Portland Trail Blazers, the Associated Press is reporting.

Fernandez made the announcement at a press conference in Spain.

"It has not been easy for me to take this decision, but it is the moment to face new challenges," Fernandez said. "Now, I have the chance to fulfill a dream and become part of the NBA."

With Fernandez now making it official does this open up options for Portland to trade thier pick now for vetran help in hopes of pushing this team deep into the playoffs?

That is great news for Portland.

I look for Roy to play a lot of PG in order for Rudy to get more playing time

    That's what I was thinking.

I can't wait to see Rudy play - I've read so much about how good he supposedly is. I hope he gets alot of PT.

As for Portland's pick, I could see them picking up another swing, or another big...seems highly likely they'd draft an international player and keep him overseas.

This is the most interesting team in the NBA.

They are right on the verge of being the next big thing, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

He's a great player, another nice pickup for the Blazers. They're slowly and silently building a powerhouse over there.

That's what I was thinking. So does anyone think they should package thier pick along with someone like say Webster, Outlaw or Frye and get some veteran leadership to push em over the top to being serious contenders in the West

I don't doubt that KP is attempting that

This team is ready to take a shot.

It's still up in the air what Oden will be able to do this year, so they should be careful of one year rental-type veterans.

They absolutely need to at least make the playoffs this season so they can get some experience. If this team doesn't turn into a title contender within the next three years or so, something went terribly wrong.

isn't it amazing how much this team has turned around? It wasn't that long ago that they were the "Jail-Blazers" with attitude problems and terrible contracts

There are a lot of dumb GMs. A smart one can get a lot done.

    They've been lucky, too.
