<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>This news is exclusive to The Wrestling Heraldwrestlingherald.com and Wrestling Edge wrestling-edge.com. Usually I wouldn't post MMA news here but considering Mayweather's tie-in with WWE and the magnitude of this announcement I figured i'd post this: I just got off the phone with a source very close to the situation and I am told that Floyd Mayweather and his representatives have been in contact with UFC's Dana White as late as Wednesday but "possibly as late as last night" according to the source. UFC is expected to make several announcements on Thursday. 1) Anderson Silva will be fighting in the light heavyweight class 2) Chuck Liddell will fight in the main event on the September pay-per-view in Atlanta However, the big announcement being rumored is that Floyd Mayweather will be signing or has signed with UFC. For those that did not read our last update, Mayweather announced his retirement from boxing. If this signing turns out to be the case this would be a huge coup for UFC as it would surely attract some of the boxing fans that have not given UFC a chance. Mayweather recently was part of WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando where he participated in a match against Paul "Big Show" White. Mayweather was open to do a rematch but now with the UFC deal that looks to be off the books.</div> Source Hopefully it's true!
How is a guy who never got hit in his entire career going to deal with the challenges of MMA? I don't know why MMA can't make its own legit breakout stars and market them.

And in MMA he will be a big name project who will get hyped like he's a champion but will never be better than mediocre to poor. As a boxer, Floyd is miles better than any competition out there. He is a legend. He never even got tested.
Tony Page on WFAN SAYS The reason Floyd has "retired" is he hates his father and doesn't want to fight De La Hoya and give him a pay day. So he'll promote the UFC for a while and fight Miguel Cotto next year.
He needs at least a year training in wrestling, so if this is real, it doesn't have immediate repercussions on the roster, so I'm not sure why Dana would need to alert everyone in such a fashion.

I don't think this is what his big meeting is about. there has also been rumors that Gomi has bee training in Vegas lately.. ready to fight in a cage again??? that would be very very cool to see, but not earth shattering. I HOPE Dana has more up his sleeve than that. IMO if Mayweather is being ernest (IF) then why would he have the desire to train for MMA for a lot less money??? IMO he fights at what 147 lbs, who the heck is he going to fight? Faber in the WEC? How could Zuffa make any money off that? Besides Faber would have him on his back eating elbows so fast it would be an embarassment. If he goes to 155, who does he face? Sherk or Penn? Sure Penn MAY do a pride thing and try and stand with him, but I'd believe Dana would be calling him daily to remind him he's representing MMA and to do the right thing and get him down and sub him ASAP. no, I just don't see Mayweather doing MMA unless he thinks he has all the $$ he'll ever need and wants a new challenge... and I doubt this is the big news Dana has to reveal this week.. if it is.. bleh, it's worse than I could have thought it would be.
I am not sure how I feel about this right now. It could ruin the reputation of Mayweather and could be a blemish on the UFC or it could turn out really great. I mean if Mayweather goes into the UFC and gets dominated he loses some of his aura and people might call out the UFC and say theyre just trying to pull some sort of stunt or Mayweather could dedicate himself to the MMA game and show everyone hes one of the best fighters out there and the UFC could have a new star.
