I don't know how to choose between them, but I think Person and Casey interest me more because they're guys who come from different basketball backgrounds. Del Negro's resume looks like a poor-man's version of Skiles. Combined with a complete lack of coaching experience, I don't understand why we'd go there. Hell, he's currently working for Phoenix and they didn't want him to go there. And can we just move away from hiring a guy based on the fact they live close to Jerry Reinsdorf? Do we need another guy who's had to scratch and claw his way to everything? In the sense that he came into the league as a major prospect and played a long and relatively storied career, Person is coming to the table with a completely different perspective. I kind of like that. Of course, I don't know what he really takes away from any of that. So I guess I just like the potential of a different perspective. Casey, well, I like that he's been a head coach before, and I like that he's seen up close how a guy like KG worked. I don't like he was in the middle of UK's probation, and that he's quite so reverant about Joe B. Hall. Speaking of, that's where he learned to speak Pax's language. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"As a coach, discipline is the No. 1 thing," Casey said. "You have to go to class. You have to be accountable, on and off the court. That's what parents want to hear and I believe that's what the players want, too. "Joe Hall (at Kentucky) was one of the toughest and I still believe in that discipline and accountability." Discipline and accountability are a few of the reasons the Sonics are where they are right now -- in position for the NBA playoffs.</div> http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/cbasketball/63703_vecs25.shtml
I'm calling BS. The Chicago media has been practicing irresponsible journalism all summer long...going back to the Tyrus hate articles, printing hearsay, etc. I think Thibo is our guy. He is padding his resume, and may just finish up leading a team to a championship. he is a logical signing since he helps us while hurting the Celtics, a conference rival.

Keep Chandler, he becomes the starter, Wallace is phased into a bench role. That was part of the logic! Then again, Paxson is apparently an idiot, as evidenced by his near signing of Casey (failed coach in Minnesota) and Del Negro (no coaching experience). Look at this list: Avery Johnson Flip Saunders Kurt Rambis Jeff Van Gundy Rick Carlisle Larry Brown Tom Thibodeau Mike D'Antoni Doug Collins 9 very good coaching candidates all available, and we are going to end up with Casey or Del Negro? You have to be ****ing kidding me.

You have to be ****ing kidding me.</div> As it has been printed in many newspapers, Paxson's hands are tied behind his back by the team's owner. He cost them Carlisle, Brown and D'Antoni off the bat. As for the rest of that list, it has many factors. For example: Avery is the same type of coach Skiles was. They need a different type of voice, not another tough guy. He just doesn't fit. Flip Saunders has never been a good coach. Detroit players tuned him out, how is he going to gather the respect of a bunch of youngsters? Rambis is inexperienced. He has half a season of head coaching experience. Not saying he's a bad coach, but it seems that the Bulls are looking for someone old school and that implies the necessity for having prior experience. Also, maybe it's just me, Bulls seem to think that only former guards make good coaches. JVG is also similar to Skiles. Tough guy approach. May not be the best fit. Doug Collins is a horrid coach. Absolutely atrocious. He performed decent in the 80s and 90s, but I remember some of his games with Jordan in Washington. The man is a failure. Thibodeau can't interview until his team gets out of the playoffs. Maybe the Bulls are just wasting time until Thibo becomes available? Or they may feel that being a great defensive assistant coach wont translate well into being a good head coach, where motivational ability plays the primary role.
Thibodeau has led the top defense in the NBA this year. In 15 of his 18 seasons, his teams have had a top 10 defense. He helped develop Kobe's and Yao's offensive games. How the hell are we not going to hire this guy, let alone give him an interview, when you look at our list of finalists? Doing so would scream panic. I think if we hire a head coach before the conclusion of the finals, it'll be Avery Johnson. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The NBA predraft camp always breeds more rumors than first-round picks. And so it was Wednesday, when two whoppers spread through the gym where executives from all 30 teams gather to mingle, gossip and, occasionally, watch games involving mostly second-round prospects. The first: Avery Johnson is nearing a deal to coach the Bulls. Given the public nature of the D'Antoni talks collapsing, the Bulls and Johnson are keeping their back-and-forth extremely private.</div> http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,6067146.story I just can't see us hiring one of these three lackluster candidates...then again, there is probably a reason, as Mariotti wrote today, why Reindsorf/Paxson are the butt of every joke by league executives. Watch as we fumble the Gordon/Deng resignings.
Is Casey the Minnesota coach that was shafted out of his job because McHale needed another scapegoat? I always thought he was a pretty good NBA coach.
JVG is my favorite on that list. He's not a drill sergeant, but his teams have played really tough defense and he's gotten the most out of his players. I don't see him holding back any of the players like Skiles did.

He had a bad team playing well when the idiots that run that organization fired him.

And even if that were true (which it is not) he'd still be a lot better choice to coach the Bulls than a guy with no experience.

Here is the craptastic team that Casey had at .500 when he got axed. This was in 2007. These players are the same now as they were then. Garnett Ricky Davis Mark Blount Trent Hassell Mike James That's the starting five. Marko Jaric Craig Smith (who Casey did a good job developing considering he had no choice because McHale put together a roster with one living big man and Mark Blount's corpse) Troy Hudson Rashad McCants Those were the rotation guys. Randy Foye Eddie Griffin Justin Reed Bracey Wright That's the end of the bench. He should have been coach of the year. McHale replaced him with his buddy Randy Wittman, who went 12-30. I think he overachieved, too.
