Bryant to Boston ace Schilling: `Go Yankees!'

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>LOS ANGELES—Curt Schilling called out Kobe Bryant on the Boston Red Sox ace's blog for yelling at his Los Angeles Lakers' teammates in their Game 2 loss.
    more stories like this

Schilling sat courtside in Boston wearing a Larry Bird jersey and flashing his World Series championship ring for TV cameras. He was within earshot of the Lakers' bench and made some observations on Bryant.

"He'd yell at someone, make a point, or send a message, turn and walk away, and more than once the person on the other end would roll eyes or give a 'whatever dude' look," Schilling wrote on his web site http://www.38pitches.com.

Asked if he was disappointed in Schilling's comments, Bryant responded, "Go Yankees!" and pumped his fist, drawing laughter from reporters Wednesday.

Schilling wrote that Bryant came to the bench angry at every timeout and "yelled about something they weren't doing, or something they did wrong. No dialogue about `hey, let's go' or whatever." Schilling said Bryant's comments were peppered with expletives.

    Bryant was unapologetic.

"After the time of all those bleeps, we almost pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in history," he said. "It seemed to motivate them pretty well."

The Lakers rallied from 24 points down in the fourth quarter to get within two before losing 108-102. They won Game 3 Tuesday night and trail the series 2-1.

Bryant said he doesn't worry that he's too hard on his teammates.

"They're used to it, and we all have thick skin around here," he said. "We're brutally honest with each other. We all love it."</div>

Rex Sox = most bandwagon team in baseball right now. Kobe says it the best.

Actually the Yankees are. Even here in Mass, you see people wearing Yankee shirts, hats, etc, just cause they think its cool to root for the Yankees.

They suck, and so does Kobe. [IMG]

Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers actually. The Boston teams have their fair share of bandwagon fans, but for the most part, everybody hates them.

I agree as well, it is Cowboys, Yankees and the Lakers.

Even my brother is a die hard Laker fan. [IMG]

    That's not bandwagon...
Patriots aren't bandwagon. Everyone hates the Pats.

Most Yankee fans are dirty little bandwagon whores (like most Laker fans. This only applies to casual fans).

I'd say Lakers, Red Sox (recently. Yankees before people thought it was cool to talk like Peter Griffin), Cowboys.

Duke/UNC are good bandwagon basketball teams, too.

    And in football, OSU.

We've got Red Sox fans in the heart of Yankee country. After 2004 there's been a lot of Red Sox bandwagoners.

Most of which were Mets fans, at one point.

Patriots as a bandwagon team? Seriously? Everyone hates the Patriots. Just checkout the football board here. Half the posts are about hating the Patriots. Cowboys are the biggest bandwagon team because of the whole "America's Team" mystique that Jerry Jones has in place.

For baseball, the Yankees are the biggest bandwagon team, though I am sure the Red Sox are gaining on them and rapidly. I don't notice too many bandwagon Sox fans where I am in Western New York. Its still Yankee country out here even though the Indians AAA team plays in Buffalo and Cleveland is about half the distance from here to NYC.

For basketball, the Lakers are still the biggest bandwagon team, but the Celtics probably have the fastest growing bandwagon base.

From my own experience, I think the colleges in the Boston area have a lot to do with the Red Sox expansive fan base, more so than a true bandwagon phenomenon. I went to a very anti-sports college located in downtown Boston (Emerson College). In 2004, I was one of four Sox fans on the floor. When the Sox were going through the series, a lot of my floormates saw the intensity that the four of us had as we were watching the game together and saw a lot of it on the news and just walking around town. As the playoffs progressed, it got to the point where there were 30 of us watching the Sox win the World Series and rooting for the Sox. I am sure there is a certain level of bandwagon effect, but a lot of it is just seeing the passion that Sox fans have for their team. I'm starting to get that for the Sabres here in the Buffalo area. I don't like hockey, but I will watch the Sabres if there's a group of people watching them play. The level of fandom is just captivating. Based on the noise level in the area, I don't think the Lakers approach that level, despite the devotion of the fan base on this board. For an LA area team that probably has something similar, I would imagine it would be the Raiders because of those psychos in the Black Hole.

My friend's been a Red Sox fan for life. Not because he's a bandwagoner, but because his great grandpa (I think...someone in relation to him) played for them waaay back.

I like almost all the Boston fans I've ever met. They're much more intelligent when it comes to baseball than a lot of the Yankee fans I know.
Plus, it's so easy to get to them. I was in Boston after the Boston Massacre (5 game sweep), and some random guys saw me in Yankee stuff, and tried talking to me:
"Yeah, well, we've won more recently than you!"
    "Bucky Dent"

I went to a game at Yankee stadium last year and was so disappointed that nobody even tried to start with me. This one guy in Harlem said he should slap me for wearing a Red Sox shirt in New York, but then he started laughing and gave me daps. That was the closest I got.

There were Red Sox fans sitting in front of me at a game at the Trop. They were fun. Especially when they were drunk.
