It is too much to pay for a 4th option on the Lakers, but I wouldn't be surprized if he was on another team with a bigger role that he would manage to get that kind of contract. I wouldn't be surprized if he gets 12-13 mill though.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Lavalamp @ Jun 14 2008, 12:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Orlando paid 120 mill to land Rashard Lewis, had Odom been around in free agency and they did not get Rashard I would not be surprized if they offered him big bucks. He is a much better rebounder, a better passer, a better low-post player. Even if they gave Odom 90 mill, the 30 mill they saved they could take on some extra salary (like 30 mill) to get a better shooting guard.</div> The big thing, is that he couldn't shoot the three like Rashard Lewis. With us having Dwight Howard, we didn't need a better rebounder or a better low post player, we needed a shooter to open things up for Dwight Howard downlow, or Hedo Turkoglu and Jameer Nelson on the drive to the basket. His impact was huge for us this year, and much bigger than the impact that Odom would have made for us. So we probably wouldn't have offered him much, because what we needed was a brilliant shooter.
^^ If they needed a 3 point shooter so badly, they should have signed Jason Kapono for 6 years and 24 mill instead of 6 years and 120 they gave to Rashard Lewis. Then with the extra 96 mill. Give like 80-90 mill to Odom. Odom can hit deep 2 point shots, and has 3 point range, but isn't as good a shooter as Lewis. C: Dwight PF: Odom SF: Hedo SG: Kapono PG: Nelson/Dooling/Arroyo

He can hit the three, which is really what we needed, but we didn't need a pure three point shooter. Not to mention, Kapono in a starting role just wouldn't work well. We did give up more money than I originally wanted, but in the end he had a huge impact on our team this year and was one of our two biggest factors for the huge turn around in play from last season. Odom doesn't have very good three point range at all, 29% last year and 27% this year from three land isn't good. Not to mention, that Rashard Lewis is just a better scorer than Lamar Odom, and was a better choice. We wouldn't have thrown muh at Odom, because he simply wasn't that great of a fit for us.
No way in hell am I giving that kind of money to Lamar.... There are a number of SFs in this league that I rather have....Artest, Maggette, bringing back Caron... Only team that would be willing to pay him that much though, would be a running team like NY will be or something like that. Lamar isn't THAT good.
This is just the first inflated contract Odom's agent is asking for. Let's see what can be negotiated, then ship him out if all else fails.
i would like to get a strong PF who can rebound and block shots either way a defensive player, i would trade lamar for battier if the salaries would match!!!

How about you trade him for Allen Iverson Lamar, Radman, and Farmar for Iverson, and Kleiza Bynum Gasol Kleiza Kobe Iverson 4/5 draw double teams and one knock down 3pt shooter.
http://www.tmz.com/2008/06/16/lamar-odom-s...-you-be-in-bed/ this is last night apparently, or should I say early this morning to be more accurate. I understand players have lives, but at this stage of the season? really ?
We have a game tomorrow right? I usually don't mind what players do off the court, as long as they aren't breaking the laws or anything, but you have to think that the more rest you get, the better, especially in such a grueling series. Lamar should've been in bed after the game, and resting himself today. But honestly, none of this matters when the game starts. He could party it up tonight and get drunk an hour before Game 6 for all I care, but he better show up and play

Gasol and Kobe each need their touches and Bynum will as well, I don't think Iverson could defer as much as he'd have to. Plus, he's a cancer and I want him nowhere near my team.
It all depends on Bynum. Bynum's healthy and back on the same track as this past season, the Lakers have no use for Odom, except perhaps as the SF. If Bynum takes half a season or more to get back to top form, and minus Odom, the Lakers are going to be pretty weak.
The Lakers can't put all their hopes on Bynum, we need some kind of back-up plan, even if we lose Odom later on.
