The reason I ask is this: I'm beginning to wonder if the story hints at a guarantee. Look at the picture of him kneeling on the Nets logo.

Sudden minor injuries like the quadriceps problem are sometimes used to disguise a guarantee. Now usually, they are given after a workout, but Kiki has scouted him. The Nets may have just wanted to talk with him, do the psychological and mental testing.

Been saying since the Dallas trade that the smartest use of that pick at #40 would be a young Euro who the team can stash for a year or two. Nets do not need three rookies when half the roster is 25 or younger and the team has two first round picks. Casspi is 19. Letting him perform for another year in Israel and Europe, hone his shooting and defense, would be the smart thing to do, particularly since next season the Nets don't have a second round pick and there would be more room. The other issue is that someone like him could be a first round pick next year and with the European teams paying bigger bucks than the NBA teams can pay on the CBA, he could sign a long term deal over there.

If he decides Monday not to opt out and suddenly his quad worsens and he doesn't work out, likelihood grows that he's got a guarantee.

If you go to Casspi's draft profile on the NJNets website, you'll see this interesting blurb under "expert's take:"

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Poor locker room presence</div>

wtf? I find that pretty peculiar that the official Nets authority would put that on their website.

so far what I have is that Casspi is returning to Israel tomorrow after his value was determined during a ten-team NBA workout--he must have participated in that multi-prospect free-for-all.

I just find it weird that he got all dressed up for the workout and didnt participate. I must be paranoid...or bored.

This is the best I can do . . .

    It is not a guarrantee . . .

It is a summary of what he has been doing. It says that Casspi "innocently"(?) travelled for two weeks, working out for 10 NBA teams, and will return home tomorrow. It seems to be saying that he will make the decision whether to come back to Maccabi by Monday evening (the word they use is come back to "the familiar"), which of course is the deadline for him to pull out of the draft. It then gives his flight number and what time the plane will land.

It seems to just be saying that he worked out, and now he will decide whether to remain in the draft or not. that's it.

Please someone step in here if I have it wrong . . .

    now I'm going swimming.

Pretty interesting stuff. He gets the NBA gig and also the big contract from his club in Europe.

    Heck, why not?

As would I. It is the smart thing to do until the dollar and the euro reach parity again...you can wait two or three years on a 19 year old.

He seems to think it's a good idea as well...and where better for a nice Jewish boy than Brooklyn?

Casspi is an interesting prospect, hard worker and a known provocateur, even against NBA competition (he proved that last preseason when Maccabi faced a couple of NBA teams). His shot is ugly, but he's pretty athletic and can drive to the hoop well. I wouldn't mind picking him up with our 2nd round pick (not because of bias though, if he doesn't go in the 1st round I don't really care where he falls), since he definitely has potential to become a decent role player in the NBA.

The article basically says that Casspi worked out for 10 NBA teams during the past 2 weeks and will land in Israel today (Monday). He'll make the decision about going to the draft or not by nighttime.

Talk about optimism! Kid may retire before that happens.

P.S. - Does Macabi pay players with euros? I would assume they get paid in new sheqels
