<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (NetsDaily)</div><div class='quotemain'>The Nets have needs at several positions, writes Matt Kamalsky in Draft Express’ review of team needs, but don’t expect Rod Thorn to reach down in the draft just for instant gratification. Instead, the team is likely to go for the best available at each spot. ”If the Nets don’t like the big men that are on the board” at #10, expect them to go small and find a big man later, Kamalsky argues.</div>

I hope he sticks with this, and actually does select the BPA. Although, lately, we've had a good track record picking for needs...even tho you could say they were BPA at the time, as well.

I agree. Great picks like Antoine Wright and Marcus Williams not only were the best players available but they really filled a need.

i dont like how our frontcourt is shaping up. boone, sean, swift, diop, draft pick... all one dimensional at this point. no real big with any offensive skill

Diop will not be a Net next season.

Swift is a moot point, he is not in the Nets plans past next year.

Boone, Sean and Krstic will be the key bigs to watch.

Depends on what you call "offensive skill". Our bigs aren't Elton Brands or Kevin Garnetts, but how many of them in the league? Boone is a very good around the basket player and succeeds in put-backs and lay-ups, Krstic is a different story, good shooter and that's it. If only we could combine them in some kind of Bookic...

I'm tired of picking up bigs that can never be a star player. I know not every pick is going to be amazing but how many bigs are we going to roll with.

Why do you persist in denigrating Boone? He is better than anyone expected when the nets drafted him. In the past ten years, how many bigs drafted in the 20s have become relaible contributors? How many players drafted after him in 2006 have contributed more thus far in their careers? Here are the TWENTY FIVE players drafted immediately after Boone (I've marked the bigs):

    Kyle Lowry
    Shannon Brown
    Jordan Farmar
    Sergio Rodriguez
    Maurice Ager
    Mardy Collins
    Joel Freeland (PF)
    James White
    Steve Novak
    Solomon Jones (PF)
    Paul Davis (PF)
    PJ Tucker
    Craig Smith (PF)
    Bobby Jones
    Kosta Perovic ©
    David Noel
    Denham Brown
    James Augustine (PF)
    Daniel Gibson
    Marcus Vinicius
    Lior Eliyahu
    Alexander Johnson (PF)
    Dee Brown
    Paul Millsap
    Vladimir Veremeenko

Here are the 14 players selected immediately BEFORE Boone:
    Patrick O'Bryant ©
    Saer Sene ©
    JJ Redick
    Hilton Armstrong ©
    Thabo Sefolosha
    Ronnie Brewer
    Cedric Simmons (PF)
    Rodney Carney
    Shawne Williams
    Oleksei Pecherov (PF)
    Quincy Douby
    Renaldo Balkman
    Rajon Rondon
    Marcus Williams

OK, including Boone I just list 40 players . . . how many would you rather have, in retrospect?

And it is more than just being better than the rest of his draft class--Boone has some legit skill around the basket.

Honestly Boone has been pretty good considering where he was picked. Most bigs that aren't in the lottery bust and those who turn into great players are few and far between. Is Boone our answer, probably not, but he is a great player to have coming off your bench.
